TRICHOMES:
When time to harvest, I personally stick to the rule of thumb.
For most Strains.
10% - Clear
90% - Cloudy

The ratio of 10-80-10 is as far as I allow.
!0% - Clear
80% - Cloudy
10% - Amber
Some Indica strains do well with this ratio
Note: Sativa Strains generally has higher levels of THC

Here are a couple of things I use to get a good closeup look at the trichomes.
A simple jewelers loupe.
Microscope
It would also be beneficial to do some research on what Trichomes look like that have gone too far.

Trichomes and Best Time to Harvest:
Hopefully this article will be helpful with identifying the right time to harvest

Milky vs Amber Trichomes - Cannabisgourmet.net You’ve likely heard people referring to w**d as “sticky” or “resin-ey” before. This is one of the most common quality indicators of cannabis – and for good reason. Trichomes are the tiny “crystals” on the surface of the buds and sugar leaves (small leaves that grow out of the bud sit...

"FAQ"
Just yesterday I was asked one of the most frequently asked questions.
What Do I Need to Get Started?
First Things First - Here's what you should consider if you're thinking of starting.

Time - Space - Commitment - Patience

* Time - Having enough allotted time daily to tend to your plants to ensure a successful grow.
* Space - Grow tent, closet, spare room, basement.
* Commitment - Stay committed and motivated towards reaping the benefits of your labor for a successful and rewarding grow.
* Patients - Success and Patients go hand and hand! (Be patient, your plants aren't going to grow overnight)

1. Grow Tent
2. Propagation Kit
3. Seed starter plugs, Rapid rooter starter plugs, Rockwool cubes
4. Pots - 5 gallon and up, recommend Fabric.
5. Water source. Distilled, Reverse osmosis etc.
6. Watering can, spray bottle
7. pH meter/pH solution tester/soil tester
8. Grow Light
9. Fan
This will get you started. I will post a full list later.

Bad News
Had to be the bearer of bad news for a friend and first timer.
Beginners and first-time growers, this is an example of a Male plant and what to look for. Instead of Female pistols, the Male plant will develop pollen sacks as seen here. This can usually be seen late in the 1st week to 2nd week of flower. Remove Immediately. Luckly this one was spotted in time.

Big Up - Beginners, Med Patients and First Time Smokers
"PROPER DOSE"
WASTE NOT - WANT NOT. I do witness a lot of waste. Recreational is one thing, waste is another and expensive.
If you are a Med patient or beginner (first time smoker) and are curious about how much to use. Here's a guideline.
One bowl - (Hand pipe, b**g, water pipe) = .3 - .5g
One joint = .5 - 1g
One blunt = 1 - 2g
This might seem like small amounts to some.
Respect the Herb!
