It’s that time of year when applications for many internships open up for the new year like the Mosaics in Science Diversity Internship (MIS) program, which are 📅 due by January 23rd, 2022!

👀 Explore a potential career in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, and math), gain on-the-ground, natural resource science-based, work experience in the National Park System, and consider applying now! Each internship is comprised of working twelve or twenty weeks in a park followed by a four day career workshop held in Washington, D.C.

⭐️ From science communications at Golden Gate National Recreation Area to exploring night skies at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, studying natural resource management at Christiansted National Historic Site, ecology at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, or biology at Point Reyes National Seashore, there are many wonders to discover.

This program is administered by the National Park Service Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate through the Scientists in Parks Program and the National Park Service Youth & Young Adult Programs Division in partnership with Environment for the Americas.

in 1777, the Continental Army marches into Valley Forge and begins an encampment. While British troops occupied the capital city of Philadelphia, Washington brought his army to Valley Forge for six months. Thousands of his soldiers formed a temporary city comprised of log huts. They were devastated by limited supplies, disease, and hunger. Nevertheless, Washington took this opportunity to reorganize his army with the assistance of The Prussian ‘Drill Master of the Army’ General Fredrick Von Steuben.

In January 1778, Alexander Hamilton arrived at Valley Forge to perform his duties as aide-de-camp to Washington. Hamilton and Colonel John Laurens (both French speakers) assisted in translating von Steuben’s French infantry training manual to English.

On this day in 1773, members of the Sons of Liberty boarded a tea ship, broke open 342 chests, and dumped approximately 90,000 pounds of East India Company tea into the Boston Harbor in protest of the controversial Tea Act. The event would come to be known as the Boston Tea Party.
