A big shoutout to Tommy for representing Midwest Krav Maga at the AGF St. Louis Open BJJ Tournament this past Saturday! 🥋

Tommy stepped into the Absolute Division, taking on the challenge of competing against larger opponents and putting his skills to the test.

Gold wasn’t in the cards this time, but Tommy fought well, gained valuable competition experience, and showed the heart and determination it takes to step up and compete.

That’s what competition is all about—testing yourself, learning from the experience, and coming back better than you were before.

Don’t give up your guard without a fight.

Guard retention is an important part of Jiu-Jitsu because once an opponent passes your guard, they gain access to stronger positions and more control.

It’s been an awesome week at Midwest Krav Maga so far.

Great attendance, great energy, and a room full of people committed to getting better. Every class is another opportunity to sharpen your skills, challenge yourself, and learn alongside an incredible group of training partners.

Self-defense is about creating opportunities.

Every movement, every strike, and every decision should help you gain a better position, create space, and improve your chances of getting home safely.

Because an encounter can change in an instant, we train for those transitions.
In this drill, our members worked through striking from different ranges, using ground kicks to create distance, and getting back to their feet.

Last week, our members trained in everyday clothing to explore how what you wear can influence a real-world self-defense encounter.
During our Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu classes, we focused on escaping common clothing grabs and learning how to use clothing to establish control.
Effective self-defense means preparing for the situations you’re most likely to face—not just the ideal training environment. Everyday clothing affects movement, creates unique challenges, and can even become an advantage when you understand how to use it.
Thank you to everyone who embraced the challenge and put in the work throughout the week. We had a great time, and we’re already looking forward to the next Street Clothes Training Week! 🔥
