Here are our choreographers for Act 1 of Stories We Become! Come see these incredible pieces on Thursday and Saturday this weekend!
Here are some words from the choreographers!
Set to the haunting music of Nina Simone, Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra, and The Doors,
“Clownin Around” by Morgan Williams and Kate Alava, of Water Street Dance Milwaukee,
explores the tension between performance and authenticity. Through striking physicality
and circus-inspired imagery, dancers embody clowns forced to mask pain with smiles,
revealing a world where humor gives way to raw vulnerability. Ultimately, the piece shifts
toward a fragile sense of hope, carried by moments of connection, risk, and release.
Maddie Young’s “We Were Meant To Meet” brings the invisible string theory to life,
imagining that who we are is shaped by every person we’ve ever met, constantly shifting,
aligning, and expanding beyond their presence. This piece celebrates the energy of being
truly seen, heard, and valued, showing how those connections continue to live within us. At
its core, “We Were Meant To Meet” reminds us that nothing is coincidence: every soul we
encounter has the power to teach, heal, or love us. True belonging begins when we trust
ourselves enough to stand fully in who we are, both in connection with others and
independently.
Ava Peltier’s “echoes of you” is about the experience of losing someone close to you and
learning how that loss shapes the way you move through life. It will also explore how the
people and things around you can influence, change, and guide you along the way.
“Инат” is a Serbian word/concept describing defiant resilience and stubborn pride. Through
dynamic movement and shifting energy, Stasa Rackov’s choreography reflects the
emotional struggle between resistance, identity, and strength.
“Outmatched” is an intense piece that focuses on musicality and movement quality. The
choreography pushes both the dancers and the audience to feel the tension, dynamics,
and precision of each moment. Through its athleticism and expressive energy, Amber
Fialka invites the audience into a powerful and immersive dance experience.
