Sixth Class Language Arts has kicked off the year with a Greek Mythology unit—a long-standing tradition at the Academy. The students prepared presentations about a Greek god or goddess paired with a myth to read, summarize, and selected key terms to teach the class. Mrs. Johnson's class is really enjoying this unit and looks forward to the next phase!

Five babies and toddlers, along with their caregivers and friends, met for the first Philippine's Playgroup of the school year. We had crawlers, walkers, wavers, and babblers. The next playgroup will be Tuesday, October 6.

Come Holy Spirit! First Fridays are a special tradition in Sacred Heart schools and we were happy to welcome Fr. Marcus Fryer, SJ to celebrate a joyful First Friday/Mass of the Holy Spirit in Shrine of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne.

Thank you to the Sixth Class who planned a beautiful Mass. They asked member of the community to make a dove to represent us invoking the power of the Holy Spirit to help strengthen and guide us throughout this school year. The paper doves were gathered in baskets and placed on the altar.

Following Mass, students enjoyed their first community building activity of the year with their new teams. It was a spirited way to celebrate!

We recently commemorated Philippine Duchesne’s birthday (Aug. 29, 1769), and will celebrate Founder’s Day on Sept. 14, the date the Academy opened in 1818. First Class rotated through hands-on music centers this week with Mrs. Foor. Recognizing quarter notes was emphasized by drawing and sculpting them. The instruments of the orchestra were cut, separated into high and low tones, and pasted on a stage. On the iPad, the piano and drum kit produced original pieces. In the sensory table, students dug for gems and instruments.
