This video is what it’s all about. I got a text from a Mom of a 1st time Camp of Rock-er. She’d signed her daughter up for Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs out of the blue at the last-minute, and said “My daughter said she wants to do Camp of Rock. I told her that she never touched an instrument before, and she said that Mr. G will teach her…” This kid picked up the drums really quickly—so much so that the family went straight from the show to buy her a drum set. Ever since then, she’s put the work in. She has taken a small group drum lesson with me, and she has been playing at home a lot. She invited three friends to play with her and they’ve been jamming. Mom sent me some photos, which I loved, but last night she sent me a couple of videos. I love this one so much that I asked her to see if she could get permission from the rest of the bandmate’s parents for me to post it here. This drummer got a 10 minute drum lesson at the first day of Camp of Rock, and since then she’s done the work to show everyone what she’s capable of doing. Full disclosure: I had the other three as students at school, and two of them had wanted to do Camp of Rock but had family vacations planned. But man, I’d love to see these kids at Camp of Rock 2027!

I did not get enough pictures during Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs, but here’s what I did get. I’m very proud of these 9 Camp of Rock Florida OGs—four of whom had never played an instrument before! Parents asked their kids “Why do you want to do a rock camp? You don’t know anything about drums?!” Kids answered “Mr. G said he’d teach me!” So I really appreciate those kids and families giving Camp of Rock a chance. They learned four songs in a week, and learned how to play in a band! Most of the kids said “I’m gonna keep doing Camp of Rock until I’m 17!!”, which I love to hear, of course! But they’ll always have THIS year’s Camp of Rock to remember.

This is the last day of Camp of Rock XXI (2026–Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs) and as usual, there have been a lot of things that have gone well, and a lot of things that we really don’t need to happen on the day of our big show. But here’s a big win from yesterday!

This was their first attempt at the song by themselves and they had...

I’m starting to realize why I don’t have any pictures from Camp of Rock I through V. These were the years when most of the kids were less experienced and needed more direct instruction from me. Academy of Rock was established in Camp of Rock VI, and more responsibility was given to kids who had auditioned to be section leaders, and they ran kid-led sectionals. There’s no Academy of Rock this year. In fact, there are very few kids at Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs who have experience on their instrument. Three of them have never played an instrument at all! And yet, we’re plowing through songs and kids are doing great! But there’s no time for me to stop and take photos or anything. That being said, here’s our first ever recording! It’s from Monday, and it took forever to upload for some reason. Old School Camp of Rock-ers will appreciate that this song was the very first song that Camp of Rock ever recorded, and it hasn’t been covered since. It brings me back, for sure! Enjoy!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Mid-day update for the old school Camp of Rock-ers: the high-pitched guitar lick in Buddy Holly has become the new Sweet Child O Mine.

Day 1 of Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs is in the books! To those of you who’ve just recently started following us, welcome!! To those of you who’ve followed us since Day 1 of Year 1, here are some quotes and things that happened today:
1) Me: Be very careful around cables, kids!
2) Me: The quicker we get the trailer unloaded, the quicker I can get the sound system up and we can be listening to tunes. The quicker we’re listening to tunes, the quicker, we’re learning how to play them.
3) Me: If you’re not doing anything, you’re not doing anything.
4) Me: Who’s playing what on this song?
5) Me: Guitars! Stop playing! (By their estimate, this was said no less than 75 times today).
6) Kids: Can we go to Winn Dixie or Subway? I didn’t bring a lunch.
7) Kids (while at Winn Dixie) *shopping for anything and everything, not including lunch*.
Me: Okay I’m setting a 5 minute timer. Then we’re out.
Point being, no matter what city or state we’re in, kids are all the same. Veterans of Camp of Rock probably read this like it was the script from the years they were at Camp of Rock in Maine. It was a lot of fun, with a lot of laughs, a lot of numbers being exchanged and group chats starting up. This week is going to fly by! Get some rest tonight kids!! Tomorrow’s gonna be here quick!

Tonight’s Camp of Rock gem goes out to strings players everywhere. Electric Light Orchestra made it on our setlist a few times over the years, but when you have two violinists and a cellist, you need to do a song by Electric Light Orchestra. We also did “Devil Went Down to Georgia” at this show. It’s not too late to register for Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs!! Tell your friends in Fleming Island Residents, Orange Park, Florida, and Green Cove Springs Word of Mouth.

As we get closer to Camp of Rock Green Cove Springs—the first Camp of Rock in Florida—here’s another blast from the past. Side note: a parent had donated 50 or so boxes at the beginning of camp, and they were painted white for the purpose of building a wall during their performance. The very first time they practiced building the wall, it went perfectly, without instruction. So we practiced it a few times during camp, but it always went perfectly, so we didn’t practice it when we went outside. For the first time, the kid who started the second row of bricks didn’t offset them, and you can see the 2nd kid pause briefly before laying their brick. They panicked and laid it on top of the next brick, and the damage was done. The kids played well, but everyone was shocked to see “The Wall” being built and ready to collapse. The next song on our list was “Sabotage” by Beastie Boys, and the kids were supposed to bust through a standing wall. They kinda did. Just another example of fun times at Camp of Rock!
