"This Internship provided me with the opportunity to combine my passion for sailing with my love of photography. Being a part of the base camp community, staff training, and accompanying courses in the field was a once in a lifetime opportunity!" -Sophia, 2021 Field Media Intern

If you have a passion for outdoor photography/content creation and an interest in marketing, consider applying to one of our Field Media Internships! The applications for both of our Sea and Land positions are still open--link below for all the deets! (Application deadline: 5/6/2022)

Thank you to everyone who submitted to our Alumni Creative Competition! Although there were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, we wanted to give a shout out to some honorable mentions.

Check out the link below to read "A Thank You Letter to our Alumni," written by Megan Hyson, our Donor and Alumni Engagement Officer.

"I didn’t know what to expect when I started envisioning a creative competition as a fun way for HIOBS alumni to share their Outward Bound experiences. Would people submit? Would people want to share their creative work with us? But as the submissions started to come in, three things became clear...."

At Outward Bound, we don’t just step outside of comfort zones; we create memories outside of them. Memories like meeting your best friend, climbing a peak ascent, discovering your passions and finding life-changing direction. Experiences that, no matter if you’re 12 or 21, will stick with you for the rest of your life.

CONGRATULATIONS to Sophia Johnson, 1st place winner of the 2022 Alumni Creative Competition and $2,500 off of a HIOBS course! 🎉

"I looked back at our crew journal and decided to make a drawing inspired by one of my favorite memories, which was sailing through a storm (which felt a lot bigger than it was). This is a zentangle style drawing made with black ink."

In 2nd place for our Alumni Creative Competition is Lori Sparrow, winner of $500 to spend at the HIOBS school store! 💸 Lori submitted an essay titled "My Outward Bound Jacket."

She writes, "It was okay to be annoyed, annoying, strong, weak, sad, frustrated, enthusiastic and joyful. And it was helpful to see other people go through it too and feel connected through our human weaknesses."

THE RESULTS ARE IN for our Alumni Creative Competition! In 3rd place is Jim McDonough, a former HIOBS Watch Office and Course Director. Congratulations Jim on winning $100 to spend at the school store! 💰👕

Jim's submission was a song he wrote on Hurricane Island years ago: "This song is a shout-out to all the Instructors who, every season, put their lives and relationships on hold to go and pell their students into value-forming experiences..."
