LONG POST:: It is with a heavy heart that I write to all of you that the opening of the creative learning corner in Springvale will not be able to move forward as planned. After weeks of reading code books, researching solutions, meeting with local contractors, multiple phone calls to the state and local fire marshal, and meeting with an architect, the renovations that would be required in order to adhere to the life safety code would require upwards of $50,000 to prepare the building. This is because the building is currently being used as a professional office space and adding child care to any existing business space requires a 2 hour fire separation. Essentially the child care has to be separately contained away from the other business, similar to how an apartment above a business would be separated. When I initially purchased the creative learning corner I had spoken with the city code's officer and was informed that the building was zoned and able to hold a child care, I was however not informed that the the fire safety codes would impact the ability of a child care to be run with in a space with another business. I have been presented with essentially 3 options to make the preschool still happen, but I can not afford that great of a further investment at this time.
If you or someone you know has been thinking about an in home preschool we can discuss options! Also, if you know of a rental space that would meet all the requirements this could be a successful business for you!
I made the investment in order to offset the mortgage in my current commercial property and to continue to offer an amazing program to the community. The timing and building are just not right. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!
Sincerely,
Valerie
