THIS IS WILD WONDER — PART ONE
Over the next few weeks, I want to share more about who we are, how we do school, why we do things differently, and where Wild Wonder is headed.
Not just schedules and classes.
The actual *why* behind this place.
And I think the best place to start is at the beginning.
Wild Wonder was built around a simple idea:
"School does not have to look the same for every child."
Students are different.
They learn differently.
They develop differently.
They have different strengths.
They struggle with different things.
They become interested in different things.
And they don't all become ready for the same academic skill simply because they had another birthday.
So we created something different.
Wild Wonder began with a desire to create the kind of educational community that can be really hard to find.
A place where different kinds of learners could belong.
A place where academics mattered without becoming the only thing that mattered.
A place where a child could need more support in one subject and more challenge in another.
A place where neurodivergent students didn't automatically have to fit themselves into a system designed around one kind of learner.
And a place where homeschool families could find real community, classes, teachers, friendships, activities and opportunities without giving up all of the flexibility that brought them to homeschooling in the first place.
What began as a homeschool community grew into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
Families wanted more classes.
Students wanted more opportunities.
Teachers brought new ideas.
Programs expanded.
Core academics grew.
Our community grew.
And somewhere along the way, the question changed from:
“What classes can we offer?”
to:
“What could school look like if we built the whole thing around what we've learned?”
And THAT is where we're headed now.
Wild Wonder is growing into a place that can serve students through both a private-school pathway AND à-la-carte programming for homeschool families.
That combination is intentional.
We aren't becoming a traditional school.
And we aren't leaving our homeschool community behind.
We're taking everything we've learned about kids, families, flexibility, academics, neurodiversity, community and belonging—and building the next version of Wild Wonder around it.
Wild Wonder is not trying to recreate traditional school on a smaller campus.
"We're building a different way to do school."
And over this series, I want to show you exactly what that means.
How we teach.
How we decide where students belong academically.
Why enrichment matters here.
How our hybrid model works.
How we assess learning.
How we support different learners.
What we expect from students.
What we expect from ourselves.
And most importantly, "why we believe kids shouldn't have to choose between belonging and learning."
This is our story.
This is where we're going.
"This is Wild Wonder."
