And that puts a wrap on the National Academic Championship in New Orleans.

The team ended with a record of 2-4. Even though we didn't walk away with a winning record, this is what we did walk away with:

- Our school's first two wins in a national tournament.
- Pride in ourselves, and each other
- Memories that will last a lifetime

I am beyond proud of these 6 kiddos. They fought all the way to the end.

Thank each and everyone of you that has reached out over the past few days. It means the world to us that you support Springport High School Academic Sports.

This weekend should show that our kids are among the best in the nation.

New Orleans Day 2

Friday brought us some exploration. We explored around the French Quarter, and Jackson Market Place. We tasted local cuisine. Mr. Howell had a gator burger, while other tried poboys and jambalaya. We dipped our fingers a plate of beignets as well.

While venturing around the French Quarter and Jackson Square, we watched some street performers. Hope even took apart of a performance when the perform used her phone during the act. The phone was recording video the entire time.

The highlight of the day took part in the late part of the day. We took in a jazz show at the legendary Preservation Hall. Watching jazz in its birthplace, in such an intimate setting is an experience we'll never forget.

Enjoy some of the sights and sounds of New Orleans.

New Orleans Day 1

Today did not go as planned for sure. Our day started with leaving SHS at 3:00 to head to Detroit Metropolitan Airport. With multiple flight changes over the past couple of months, we ended up with a layover in Fort Lauderdale.

After waiting a couple hours in Fort Lauderdale, we boarded the plane at the scheduled time. Within moments of everyone boarding, the pilot announced that we must exit the plane so they can look into a mechanical issue with the air conditioning.

Another 2 and a half hours later, we were allowed to get back on the plane. As soon as the plane was loaded, we were told that the runway was closed due to a passing storm, so we sat in the plane and waited for the storm to pass.

We finally got to New Orleans, checked into our hotel, and grabbed some food.

Our match-ups for the National Academic Championships have been announced. They put all of our matches on Sunday of the weekend which means we'll have all of Saturday to do some fun stuff as well.

We have some rematches from last year. Here are our matchups.

We will be attending the National Academic Championship. Your donations have paid for our flights, hotel stay, food, and some fun opportunities while we are down there.

We will be leaving on the 25th to enjoy a couple days in New Orleans. Then we will compete on the 27th and 28. Finally, we will be home on the 29th. This is sure to be an experience these students will remember forever.
