The Goal: Help patients move safely while allowing them to do as much as they can on their own. 👐Our 2nd-year DPT students practiced sit-to-stand transfers, learning how to assist patients who need minimal, moderate, or maximum assistance.

They practiced safe positioning, body mechanics, and adjusting their level of assistance based on what each patient needs. This takes practice, awareness, and clinical judgment. These are skills that continue to build with every hands-on experience. 💪💜

First-semester BSN students on the Bolivar campus were also getting hands-on with physical assessment and hygiene skills! 🩺🪥 And yes… that included brushing teeth AND shaving (a balloon)! 🪒

Each skill is an important step toward becoming the knowledgeable, compassionate nurses their future patients will count on. 💜

Cheer on our first-semester students as they take these important first steps in their nursing journey, we cannot wait to see how far they will go! 👏

What a blessing!

One clinical day. A whole lot of nursing skills! 🩺💜 Our 1st-semester ASN students have been busy! In just one clinical day, they completed vital signs check-offs, practiced bed baths and hygiene (yes, they even brushed each other’s teeth! 🪥), mastered bed making, and began learning the head-to-toe assessment.

These skills are the foundation of safe, compassionate nursing care, and our newest nursing students are already putting them into practice! And this is just the beginning! 💜

Our 2nd-year DPT students are getting hands-on in joint mobilization lab. What looks like a small movement requires a strong understanding of anatomy and joint mechanics, precise hand placement and force, patient positioning, safety, and clinical judgment, all working together to improve mobility, reduce pain and stiffness, and restore function. 💜Small movements. Precise techniques. Big impact on patient care. 💜

Our first-year Radiography students are combining anatomy, terminology, positioning, anatomical markers, beam alignment, radiation protection, and patient care as they learn upper extremity positioning. 💜Every detail matters when producing a diagnostic-quality image safely and accurately. And... they are only in Week 3! It is impressive to see how quickly they are building the knowledge and skills that will continue to grow throughout the program as they prepare to become skilled, confident radiologic technologists.

What happens in the first few minutes after a baby is born, and what is the nurse looking for? 👶🩺💜Those first moments are filled with important assessments that help nurses understand how a newborn is transitioning to life outside the womb.

Our 3rd-semester ASN students are learning it firsthand as they practice APGAR scoring, newborn assessments, and fundal massage while beginning their journey into the world of obstetric and pediatric nursing!

And...there is another milestone worth celebrating. They completed the very last skills check-offs of their nursing program! 🎉 Students demonstrated their skills in central line dressing changes and learned blood transfusion administration, marking one more big step toward becoming safe, confident, and compassionate registered nurses. There may have been a few glove mishaps. Way to go, 3rd semester! 🩺💜

A Great Night for DPT! SPTA leadership recently hosted The Lawn Party, bringing together first and second-year DPT students and faculty for an evening of food, fun, and fellowship!

Everyone pitched in for a potluck, the guys fired up the grill, and there was no shortage of friendly competition with volleyball, co****le, spikeball, football, lacrosse, and more.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and to all who helped provide food, games, and everything needed to make the evening such a success. We had an incredible turnout and loved seeing our DPT community enjoying time together outside the classroom!

The Lawn Party was such a hit that SPTA plans to make it an annual tradition. We can’t wait to see it grow next year! 💜

What a difference four semesters make! While our 1st-semester nursing students were busy building their foundation with vital signs, our 4th-semester students were down the hall tackling arrhythmias, chest tubes, and central lines. ❤️‍🩹 It may seem like a long way from taking that first blood pressure to managing complex patient care, but in just four semesters, they get there! 💪
One skill, one lab, one clinical at a time. 💜
