Research Brief!

We tend to underestimate how much we mean to other people. That ‘naysaying voice’ (i.e., bias) in our heads tends to convince us to hold back. This research says reach out, show , share your thoughts. We can provide an bright spot for the other person and increase our own feelings of and .

“The persistent underestimation of how much others enjoy our company is known as the liking gap…”. Admittedly, I often fall prey to this negativity bias.

Next time that gap appears, we can recognize it, name it, and counter it so we connect with the person instead of letting run the show.
