This page is maintained by local square and round dancers. The Emerald Empire area hosts many square and round dances, workshops and events each month. Lessons to learn to dance usual start during the fall and winter months. There are five clubs in Eugene/Springfield and several more in surrounding communities. Follow our page to learn about lessons, find where to dance and hear about associated events like potlucks, campouts, and other fun events. You will:

• Benefit from a healthy activity

Modern square dance strings together a sequence of individual square dance calls to make a figure or sequence. A square dance tip is usually composed of a combination of pattern calls and singing calls. With patterns the caller leads dancers through a series of free form dance moves that keeps dancers alert and focused. Singing calls can be quite exciting as dancers perform choreographed patterns of moves while the caller sings the lyrics to a song interspersed with individual square dance moves. Singing calls can be sung to variety of music – country western, rock, pop, gospel, really almost anything including rap. Round dancing is a unique form of couple dancing, involving all rhythms and techniques from ballroom steps to free-style movements that have been choreographically pre-determined for each given piece of music. Some examples of round dance rhythms are: Two step, waltz, fox trot, nightclub, (cha, cha, cha), rumba, quickstep, and jive.

After years of friendship on the dance floor and a shared commitment to keeping square and round dancing vibrant in our region, Whirl‑A‑Ways Square Dance Club and Single Trees Square Dance Club have officially merged to form a new, unified club:

This merger brings together the history, energy, and community spirit of both clubs into one strong, welcoming home for dancers of all levels. We’re looking forward to creating new memories, hosting lively dances, and continuing the traditions that make square and round dancing such a joyful part of our valley.
