Christian Nationalists: Who are they? What do they believe? 05/26/2026

Christian + Nationalist = ?

What are your thoughts on having a Christian nation?

What would that look like?

Would type of Christianity would define the nation?

Would the presidents or kings have to be church-going Christians to lead it?

Christian Nationalists: Who are they? What do they believe? A blog exploring the psychology of morality among people who identify as religious or spiritual.

CHAPTER 5: NEW TESTAMENT PASSAGES 04/29/2026

Bibles and Gay Life
As I was looking at Facebook this morning, I saw a comment asking "what do you do with..." as the writer referred to biblical texts about same-sex relationships. He was commenting on Matthew Vines book.

I think what you do is look at what scholars have done to explain various ancient texts.

For example, I presented a few opinions in this chapter, which is currently a FREE read.

God’s Conditional Love 04/27/2026

Love and Death in Christianity

We often hear “God is Love”. We also learn that people must do certain things like confess, repent, and follow. Access requires action. Depending on the form of Christianity, it’s easy to think God’s love is conditional.

Some research on this subject in my post.

INTRODUCTION: BRIDGING THE CHASM

CHRISTIANITY, PSYCHOLOGY, AND LGBTQIA+ INCLUSION

This book examines the widening gap between mainstream psychological science and many Christian communities regarding the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ individuals. I trace how this divide plays out in theology, biblical interpretation, moral reasoning, and clinical practice. I also highlight areas of potential collaboration, where people of goodwill—regardless of worldview—can work together to support those experiencing distress.

Seral essays on Substack, based on the book, are free to read and share.

Speaking of God 04/14/2026

Neurodiversity and the Divine
BY ANNELISE JOLLEY

"Speaking about God is a paradox: human language can never fully capture the ineffable in words, and yet language is one of the best tools we have for approaching and apprehending the divine. Words are at the heart of most religious rituals, from prayer and reading to scriptural interpretation and teaching."

Trump post appearing to depict him as Jesus removed amid backlash 04/13/2026

Some sacred boundaries are firm and do not permit a casual crossing.

Today, conservative Christians shone a bright light on one boundary.

Trump post appearing to depict him as Jesus removed amid backlash Before the post was deleted, Evangelical and Catholic allies called the image blasphemous in a rare public break from a base that has largely stood by Trump.

God: The Destroyer of Life - Part 1 04/07/2026

Wiping Out Iran
A substantial number of American Christians support president Trump with prayers and online posts defending aggressive threats and acts against various world governments and their leaders. Today is another deadline for Iran.

Unfortunately, the Bible isn't much help in guiding policy. Progressive Christians who promote God as a loving being are in the minority. Those who favor war and the destruction of nations have only to point to various Old Testament texts to show how God treats Israel's enemies.

There are ways to read those old texts that do not support God as a malevolent power. However, once committed to a theology that confirms what people want to do, there's little interest in changing one's mind.

I suggest some psychological perspectives in a series of posts and a book.
