Today we proudly celebrate one of Gerena’s very own heroes, 5th grade student Israel Payne!

Israel demonstrated incredible bravery, quick thinking, and leadership when he alerted others and called 911 during a recent fire on Longview Street, helping to keep others safe and prevent injuries.

We are beyond proud of Israel for showing courage, compassion, responsibility, and maturity beyond his years. Thank you to Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Superintendent Dr. Sonia Dinnall, Commissioner BJ Calvi, and the Springfield Fire Department for honoring this remarkable student today at Gerena.

What an amazing Art & Music Show Extravaganza at Gerena today! 🎨🎶

We have so many talented students in our school community, and we are so lucky that we get to celebrate the arts every single day. A huge thank you to our amazing teachers Mr. Verrocchi, Mrs. Lamour, and Ms. Netherwood for highlighting our students’ talents and supporting their creativity through the arts.

A special thank you to the Sci-Tech Band for another incredible collaboration. This is something our students look forward to every year, and we truly appreciate you serving as such positive role models for our young learners. You remind our students that the arts don’t end once they leave Gerena there are endless possibilities beyond our school community.

And to our families, thank you for always supporting your children and showing up for our school community. This is family engagement at its best! ❤️💙

Boy, were our students excited for our One School, One Book kickoff! 🎉 This year, our entire school will be reading The Wild Robot, and we’ll wrap it all up with our traditional literacy parade.

A huge thank you to our literacy team for putting together such a special experience for our school community. The excitement from our students says it all we can’t wait to read together! 📚💙

Today, our students in our Dual Language program had the opportunity to showcase their learning with families and what an incredible celebration it was! Our students proudly demonstrated their bilingual and biliterate abilities, truly highlighting the power of learning in two languages.

This week, we hosted an amazing Math Night at Gerena! 🎉

It was incredible to see so many of our families come together to engage in fun, interactive math games and some even walked away with prizes! Moments like these remind us how powerful it is when school and home connect through learning.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Lindequist and our amazing team for putting together such a meaningful and engaging event for our families. We appreciate all the time, care, and effort that went into making this night a success! 💙📊

📚✨ Bingo for Books Success! ✨📚

What an incredible evening at Gerena Community School during our Bingo for Books Family Night! Our families showed up and made the event a huge success. Students and families had an absolute blast playing bingo, enjoying some yummy treats, and having the chance to win some very cool baskets.

The best part of the night? Seeing so many of our students leave with great books in their hands and smiles on their faces! Moments like these help us continue to spark a love for reading in our community.

Today we had the honor of welcoming Superintendent Dr. Dinnall to Gerena to share some exciting news!

Ms. Kotowicz and Ms. Hope have been selected as recipients of the 2026 Grinspoon Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award.

This recognition highlights their dedication, passion, and the incredible impact they have on our students each and every day. We are so proud to have them as part of our Gerena family.
