Happy Wednesday! This week we will continue our spotlight with Deepashree Mohan Karve. Welcome to the program, Deepashree! 😊

Hi, my name is Deepashree Mohan Karve and I use she/her/hers pronouns. I am from Mumbai, India where I attended undergrad at University of Mumbai and received my degree in Psychology. I received one graduate degree from S.N.D.T. Women's University in Counseling Psychology as well as another in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Georgia Southern University. My clinical interests include working with immigrants, multicultural populations, trauma and micro-aggressions. In a sport and exercise setting I am interested in injury, rehabilitation, trauma, athletic identity, coach- athlete relationships and burnout. My research interests include athletic identity and burnout in collegiate athletes, coach-athletes relationships and burnout. I was attracted to Springfield because the program had diversity and emphasis on social justice advocacy. I feel like I will get to learn and practice a lot with my clinical and research interests.

Fun Fact: I was a professional Judo player for more than 15 years and I have represented India at Junior Asian Championships at Hong Kong in 2015.

Happy Wednesday! This week we would like to introduce David Middlebrooks. Welcome to the program, David! 😊

Hi, my name is David Middlebrooks. I am originally from the DMV (D.C., MD and VA) but have since relocated to Wethersfield, CT. I have a M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University and previously worked as an administrative assistant for Fairfax County Health Department in VA. My dream and desire is to help alleviate trauma for marginalized communities. More specifically, racial trauma for people of color. I was attracted to Springfield for two reasons: social justice and geography. I appreciate the focus on social justice and doing my part to walk in AND hold accountable our program and school to high standards in pursuing social justice for people who need it. My wife and I both have family in the area so that was also important.

Fun Fact: I lean pretty strongly on the introversion continuum.

Hello everyone! With the spring semester officially underway, we will resume our weekly spotlights of the 2021 PsyD cohort. This week we welcome Rhea Bhatia.

Hi, my name is Rhea Bhatia. I am from Mumbai, India where I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Mumbai. I completed my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Johnson & Wales University as well as my CAGS in Rehabilitation Counseling at Salve Regina University. I currently work as a graduate associate for the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Springfield College. As of now, my research interests are- relationships, college student development and multiculturalism. My clinical interests involve working with South Asian communities and children. I was attracted to Springfield's program because of their emphasis on social justice!

Fun Fact: I am passionate about plant-based living.

Hello everyone! This week our spotlight features Grayson Stevens. Welcome to the program, Grayson 😊

Hi, my name is Grayson Stevens and my pronouns are he/they. I did my undergrad in applied psychology, counseling, and gender studies at Ithaca College. Most of my jobs have been as a personal care assistant for people with disabilities. I am currently a graduate associate in the Office of Multicultural Affairs. My clinical interests involve working with LGBTQ+ adolescents, especially transgender and gender diverse individuals, in integrated care settings. I’m deeply invested in utilizing both trans-affirmative, neurodiverse-affirmative, and strengths-based models in my future practice. My main research interests include trauma and disordered eating in trans populations, as well as multicultural competence in mental health professionals. I was attracted to Springfield College because I really appreciate Springfield’s clear focus on social justice and the counseling psychologist as an agent of social change.

Fun fact: I hope to visit all of the Major League Baseball stadiums at least once.

Hello everyone! We hope you had a restful Thanksgiving holiday. This week we will resume our spotlight feature with Joe Kennedy. Welcome to the program, Joe!

Hi, my name is Joe Kennedy and I am from Pittsburgh, PA. I received my BS in Psychology and my MS in Kinesiology with emphasis in Sport Psychology. My research interests include: experiences of minority communities (specifically Black/African American) in athletic context; exploring experiences/stigmas surrounding counseling and sport psychology with minority athletes. I hope to become a Counseling and Sport Psychologist within an athletic department. I also hope that I can combine my previous experience, research interests and professional goals to help make counseling and sport psychology less stigmatized and more accessible, especially in athletics. I chose Springfield College because of the overall structure and how the program will help me reach my career goals as well as the staff/students openness in discussing social justice and taking actions within the community.

Fun fact: A hobby beyond sports/fitness that I've been trying to develop is DIY/Home improvement stuff.

Happy Friday everyone! This weeks spotlight features Olivia Vasiloff. Welcome to the program, Olivia! ☺

My name is Olivia Vasiloff and I am from Vermilion, Ohio. I graduated from Adrian College (BA), and Ball State University (MA, MS). My clinical/research interests include mental health in athletes, mental health in sporting environments, performance enhancement mental skills, sport psychology, anxiety, depression, and addiction The cohesive, friendly, aspiring vibes the cohorts above gave when visiting. I was attracted to Springfield's program because it provided me with the ability to further my education in an area I am passionate about while incorporating my own spin and interests to the field.

Fun fact: I am a former collegiate athlete in cross country and track & field. I still run competitively in half and full marathons !

Happy Friday! This weeks spotlight features Julia Jermyn. Welcome to the program, Julia! ☺️

My name is Julia Jermyn, I use she/her pronouns. I am originally from Salem, Massachusetts and attended Clemson University for undergrad and graduated in 2019 (Go Tigers!). After graduation I did research in the Psychiatry Department at Duke for two years. My clinical interests include working with at risk youth and adolescents and couples. My research interests include mitigating high risk behaviors in marginalized populations as well as spirituality and the mind body connection. I was really drawn to Springfield's mission and emphasis on social justice as well as the overall positive energy from the students.

Fun fact: I love thrifting and DIY projects!

Happy Friday everyone! This weeks spotlight is on Zev Levi Spiegel. Welcome to the program, Zev! 😊

My name is Zev Levi Spiegel, I use he/him, they/them pronouns. I majored in Educational Theatre in undergrad, and since graduating I have been working in early childhood education. My clinical/research interests include working with trans, GNC, gender creative, and gender diverse children and their families. I’m all about creating accessible pathways of exploration and transition. I was attracted to the program at Springfield College because of their emphasis on social justice!

Fun fact: My cat, Pippin, is named after both the musical and LOTR and I’d love to talk to anyone about any of those topics anytime (Pippin the Cat being a topic of her own).

Hello everyone! Here is our first spotlight on the 2021 cohort this year featuring Sean Bourgeoise! Welcome to the program, Sean 😊

My name is Sean Bourgeoise and I am from Chicopee, MA. I received my M.A. in Psychology from American International College and currently serve as a substance abuse counselor and fellow for the Counseling Psychology department. My clinical/research interests include: Potential, Conscious interference, Sport psychology, and Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. I was attracted to Springfield's program because of the faculty along with the overall positive energy on campus.

Fun Fact: I picked up golf at age 20 and ended up competing in Division II.
