SCLA is an alternative school that meets the needs of the non-traditional and truant students from school districts in Sangamon County. The Sangamon County Learning Academy (SCLA) has small class sizes which focus on cooperative and interactive learning strategies. Referrals come from home school counselors or principals. The program is designed so that students have the flexibility of either retu

rning to their home school at the end of a semester, enrolling in both Capital Area Vocational School and the alternative school and/or completing the alternative program and graduating from their home school. Currently the school has an enrollment of 50 students in grades 8 through 12. The principal, Liz Bretz, and her staff are always willing to share information about the Sangamon County Learning Academy with anyone interested in developing a program in their area.
