Happy Birthday ‘Merica!

Hot time in the old dojo tonight.
After some basic combos we dived into kata - Heian shodan, Heian nidan, Heian sandan and Heian yondan. Followed by Enpi and Sochin.

Our new banner for outside the dojo.
The old one is so faded now, you can’t tell we’re in there.
We’re still offering the two free lessons as well to see if it suits you.

In observance of Juneteenth the dojo will be closed Wednesday.

Congratulations to everyone who tested tonight.
We have two new brown belts and a new green belt.

Shout out to one of my karate students.
Brian Shimchick who started at around eight years old and reached nidan.
Now in the USAF serving his country has been promoted to master sergeant!
So proud of this guy.

As a reminder the dojo will be closed for Memorial Day, Monday 27th.

Spent pretty much two lessons steeping forward into stance.
Most people aren’t really aware of what’s going on while they step through into say zenkutsu dachi.
If you do it slowly enough you can feel the heel lift slightly and the foot pivot.
Newer students sometimes leave the rear foot planted and don’t pivot enough and end with the rear foot at nearly a 90° angle to the front foot.

Back from another weekend in Ohio helping with Saisei Karate grading and mini tournament.
Good to see everyone again.
