They’ve been excited to update the number as soon as the last page is read and watch their tally grow – to 205 books!
They are super proud of how many books they have read! Great job, Bears!

Congratulations to the Hamlin Middle School Restoration Team, winners of the 2026 Middle School Watershed Olympics!
From February to May, WELL Project Coordinator Stephanie Lawless brings students from Hamlin, Briggs, Agnes Stewart, and Thurston Middle Schools to do restoration work at local watersheds. They removed blackberries along the Lost Creek Trail in Elijah Bristow State Park and along the Willamette River at the McKenzie River Trust property, planted 130 native plants along Gorrie Creek at a SUB well field, and learned about native plant identification, water quality, and macroinvertebrates (aquatic bugs).
Their time on the team concludes by bringing all four teams together at the Middle School Watershed Olympics for a fun day of friendly competition and celebration of all they’ve learned and experienced.
This program would not be possible without the generous WELL grant from Springfield Utility Board. Thank you for supporting our students and community with this program!
Thanks also to the community partners who bring this real-life learning to our students: Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council, Oregon State Parks, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
