A most exciting announcement to all Evangel University and AGTS Counseling and Psychology alumni! This year’s homecoming will be a tremendous treat for all who come! Free 1.5 CE on Saturday 10:00 a.m. with a leading Christian counselor education professor, author, speaker and mentor and who also attended Woodstock 50 years ago: Dr. Richard Henriksen from Sam Houston State University. His CE presentation is titled: Multicultural Competence: Using ASERVIC competencies to work with religious/spiritual clients. We are so blessed to have a man of his credentials be part of our alumni reunion and training.

In addition to his presentation, we will also be formally celebrating the 8-year CACREP accreditation of our Masters of Counseling program with specialties in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and in School Counseling!! Here is a short Bio of Richard C. Henriksen Jr., Ph.D., LPCS, NCC

Dr. Richard C. Henriksen Jr. is a Professor of Counselor Education in the Department of Counselor Education at Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas and is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and National Certified Counselor. He received both his master’s and doctoral degrees from Texas A&M University Commerce. Dr. Henriksen has been a counselor for more than 25 years and specializes in multicultural issues with an emphasis on religious and spiritual issues in counseling, the multiple heritage population and those challenged with acute psychological issues. In addition to having more than 70 publications, he has participated and held leadership positions within counseling organizations at the state and national level (ASERVIC, CACREP, AMCD etc.).

Dr. Henriksen is dedicated to the preparation of ethical and outstanding counselors and counselor educators. He has worked as a professional clinical counselor in inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings focused on clients with acute mental health and substance abuse issues and works from a Christian perspective. He enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Henriksen’s research areas focus on multicultural issues, religion/spirituality, counselor supervision, counselor education and the identity development of multiple heritage individuals, couples and families. He also incorporates the use of existential philosophy from a Christian perspective in his counseling and in his research focused on understanding how individuals make meaning and purpose in their lives.
