Eric Blanchard ’07 chose Western New England University (WNE) for its beautiful campus, proximity to home, and the academic program he wanted to pursue. What he found once he arrived was an experience that would shape him both on and off the field.

As a walk-on for the baseball team, Blanchard learned early that anything is possible. Along the way, he celebrated three conference championships and built lasting relationships with teammates and coaches. Through athletics, he developed a strong appreciation for hard work, professionalism, respect, teamwork, and gratitude, values that continue to guide him both personally and professionally.

Rachel (Gotta) Dore ’14 chose Western New England University (WNE) for its social work program, but it was the welcoming feeling she experienced on campus that made her know WNE was home.

While her education prepared her for a career in social work, it was the relationships she built that shaped her experience most. She formed lifelong friendships during her first year, met her future husband, Mathew Dore ’15, and found a lasting sense of belonging. Looking back, Dore remembers the people, friendships, and connections that made WNE more than a college. It became the beginning of relationships that continue to shape her life today.

Discover the people and connections that made WNE home for Rachel and continue to be part of her story today. Read her full story here: https://bit.ly/WeAreWNE! ✨

When Patrick Riley ’25 began his college search, the idea of leaving home felt intimidating. A conversation with a Western New England University (WNE) representative at a college fair introduced him to a community that felt different. The close-knit atmosphere and welcoming environment gave Riley the confidence to take a chance on a new experience.

At WNE, Riley found opportunities to grow while helping others do the same. Through the Peer Advisor (PA) program, he supported new students as they navigated college, developing his own skills as a leader and mentor along the way. His professors also encouraged his growing interest in public policy and research, ultimately inspiring him to pursue a Master of Public Policy at the University of Connecticut.

Looking back, Riley credits WNE with teaching him to trust himself, step outside his comfort zone, and embrace opportunities that once might have felt out of reach. Through mentors, friendships, and leadership experiences, he built the confidence to keep moving forward long after graduation.

Discover how WNE helped Patrick step outside his comfort zone, find his confidence, and chart his path forward. Read his full story here: https://bit.ly/WeAreWNE ! ✨

Randal Davis ’79/G’82 chose Western New England University (WNE) for its strong curriculum and convenient distance from his home in Albany, N.Y. What he found during his time on campus was an opportunity to put what he was learning into practice.

At the Rathskeller, the former on-campus bar, Davis worked his way from student employee to manager, gaining hands-on experience in leadership, customer service, and business. With guidance from mentors like Ted Zern and Andrew Mulcahy, and support from his work-study position, he developed skills that would carry into his career long after graduation. Those experiences helped shape his professional path and opened the door to a career filled with memorable opportunities, which included meeting Queen Elizabeth II (see photo 3). Through it all, Davis has held onto a simple belief: success depends on how you use the opportunities and education you are given.

From his early days at the Rathskeller to a career filled with unforgettable opportunities, discover the experiences and mentors that shaped Randal’s journey. Read his story here: https://bit.ly/WeAreWNE! ✨
