After 4 years as our department head, Dr. Stephanie Huffman has announced that her last day at MSU will be May 25, as she has accepted a position as the Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Dean of the Graduate College at the University of Northern Iowa! Although we will miss her greatly, we are so excited for her new opportunity. To celebrate, our faculty came together and surprised Dr. Huffman with a farewell party at Getaway Golf last Friday!

Good luck with your new position and we will miss you! ❤️⛳️

Beyond stories and pictures - College of Education News 04/19/2023

Dr. Kayla Lewis was recently interviewed about her passion for promoting proper education of Native American heritage. She and Dr. Sarah Nixon worked together to evaluate the accuracy of 95 children's books written by or about Native Americans to determine if they would be beneficial in the classroom or if they reinforce cultural stereotypes. "Exposure to a variety of cultures is crucial to create an accepting and educated society" - Dr. Lewis.

This week, members of our RFT faculty traveled to Jacksonville, Florida to attend the Association of Teacher Education Conference! Dr. Cathy Pearman, Dr. Nancy Gallavan, and our department head Dr. Stephanie Huffman gave a presentation on education in rural schools. They spoke about diversity, equity, and inclusion, and how to best support teachers, staff, and students in rural K-12 schools. Great job!
