Our UIC College of Nursing Springfield students took a well-deserved pause to de-stress before final exams with what started as goat & puppy yoga (thank you, Willow City Farm)… and quickly turned into full-on animal cuddle therapy. No complaints here!

Between the chaos of finals and the calm of furry friends, it was the perfect reminder to breathe, laugh, and take care of yourself.

On Friday, we celebrated a truly special milestone for our UIC College of Nursing Springfield seniors at their Pinning Ceremony.

This meaningful tradition marked the transition from student to nurse, honoring the dedication, resilience, and compassion each of you showed throughout your journey. From long study nights to hands-on clinical experiences, you worked tirelessly to reach this moment.

In just a few short weeks, you will step into the profession ready to care, to lead, and to make a difference in the lives of others. We are incredibly proud of all that you have accomplished and the nurses you are about to become.

We had an incredible time yesterday participating in Springfield Memorial Hospital's 29th Annual Research Conference, Bright Lights, Big CITI: Illuminating Nursing Science!

Our students were fully immersed in a day of learning and connection, attending dynamic podium presentations, exploring an impressive array of research posters, and engaging with fellow students and nursing professionals from across the community.

We are especially proud to share that three poster presentations were led by our very own UIC Springfield students. This outstanding work showcases the future of nursing science. 👏 Congratulations to Ella, Julia, and Grace for winning the poster contest with their presentation, A Safer Stream: CAUTI Rates Using External vs. Indwelling Urinary Catheters for Female Clients. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that went into this study.

A special highlight was seeing our Springfield Program Director, Dr. Sara McPherson, and Springfield Associate Director and Student Success Coordinator, Dr. Susan Hovey, contribute their expertise as part of a professional panel discussion.

Thank you to Memorial Health for hosting such a meaningful and impactful event that continues to elevate and celebrate the importance of nursing research.

We’re proud to have Nurse Educator Fellows representing all three of our bachelor’s degree campuses this year! And a very special shoutout to our own director, Sara McPherson from the Springfield campus!

We are proud to have Nurse Educator Fellows this year representing all three of our campuses that grant bachelor's degrees! Krista Jones (Urbana), Sara McPherson (Springfield), and Stacy Arriola (Chicago) were selected for the competitive nursing faculty retention program, which is offered by the Illinois Board of Higher Education. Awards are used to supplement the salaries of well-qualified nursing faculty.

Take this time to rest, recharge, and do something that makes you happy. You’ve earned it. Whether it’s catching up on sleep, spending time with loved ones, or just enjoying a slower pace, we hope it’s exactly what you need.

We’ll be ready to hit the ground running when you get back, but for now… relax. 💙

We really enjoyed being part of SHG’s Career Fair! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with students and talk with them about their interests in nursing and careers in healthcare. Thank you to everyone at SHG for the warm welcome and for inviting UIC College of Nursing Springfield to be part of such a great event. We loved meeting so many thoughtful and motivated students! 🩺💙

Yesterday, our upperclassmen attended Career Day, beginning with a career fair where they had the opportunity to meet professionals from across our community and explore what the road ahead might hold.

After the Career Fair, they heard from three inspiring SHG alumni who shared the real stories behind their journeys - reminding students that every path looks a little different.

Thank you to all the businesses that hosted booths and invested time in our students! And a special thank you to our alumni panelists, Amanda Brown ’20, Greg Moredock ’06, and Jen Killian ’94, for sharing their journeys to where they are today. Your stories definitely left an impression and made an impact on our students!
