Students in African Dance Theory and Technique Class gave their final presentation in a performance showcasing what they have learned throughout the spring semester. The program featured dances from within African and African diaspora traditions, including Fanga, Shosholoza, Gumboot Dance (Isicathulo), and Mandiani (Mendiani), as well as audience participation and call-and-response.
The class is taught by Sister Noel Staples-Freeman.
This final performance represents the culmination of students’ growth and exploration of African-rooted movement, rhythm, communal awareness, and cultural lineage, placing them within a living continuum of tradition while engaging the discipline and respect required to study these forms in a contemporary academic setting.
