Stevens County Upward Bound Proudly serving students from Columbia, Mary Walker, and Wellpinit High Schools!

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree; and other populations underrepresented in postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Week 4 of our summer, we spend the week at Nature Bridge on Lake Crescent in the Olympic Natural Forest. The students preformed different types of science experiments in the woods, on the river and in the classroom.

We had the opportunity to go see 2nd beach and learn about the tide pools there as the tide came in. My personal favorite part was getting to hike to see different waterfalls and water every day. Oh and please ask your students about the interesting canoe ride.

Week 3 was off to an outdoor education week.

Week 2 was a little more laid back as it was our local literacy week.

We had time to reflect on our favorite childhood stories, had time to try to write them better/different, went to the library several times, learned about different types of poems, ways people write and had the chance to learn about the different things the library has to offer. Our final project was writing our own stories and reading them to the librarian, she gave really good feed back and helped us grow in our writing skills.

We had an amazing summer full of adventure. Our 1st week was campus survival @ WSU pullman.

Activities included but were not limited to meeting new friends, sleeping in dorms, having meals in the dining hall, a full campus scavenger hunt, lesson and tour of the art museum, hands on education in our vet school, studying Spanish and doing reports on a location of student choice in Mexico to create a trip itinerary, there was a fun tour at the library that also included a scavenger hunt and we ended our week with a bang at the beautiful banquet.

This week was our Spring break trip and we were lucky enough to learn about different colleges, particle wave finding, art, culture, lots of food and the history of Hawaii.
We learned about and fed sea urchins, we got to see and discover many different Hawaiian animal species and visited an amazing Army museum.
Oh and don't forget beaches.
We had lots of warm rain but not a single complaint from anyone. What a truly amazing week with a spectacular group of kids.

Good Morning Upward Bound family. Just over a week ago we had the opportunity to visit EWU. What a fun day we had even though it snowed on us. We explored Neuroplasticity through learning new motor skills while ice skating. Got a tour of the beautiful campus, had good food in the dining hall and finished off the day with a fun informative group session about the college.

Upward Bound got the opportunity learn about the CWU campus this weekend. We attended a academic fair, the groups and sports fair, went to the planetarium and ended with a trip to the greenhouse where we not only saw plants of all kinds but mostly held snakes.
