EAST at Hunt Elementary

EASTCon25 is a wrap!

I am so incredibly proud of these students. They represented EAST at JB Hunt Elementary so well!

It was a lot of work but these students were up to the challenge. The bulk of what they did at the conference was present our booth to patrons. Thousands of people stopped by our booth to hear about our projects..

One EAST facilitator from another school district came by our booth and was very encouraging. The students were telling him about one of their projects and he said, "I've been to a lot of pretty booths and heard about a lot of projects but THIS is The Best Project I've seen at this conference because this project actually means something." That is high praise and something I'm really proud of. These students are working on real projects that actually matter for real people. That is work we can all be proud of.

A main component of the conference is a judging session. A small group of judges goes to each booth to hear a 5-7 minute program pitch then have a short Q&A session. After hearing all of the pitches in their group the judges choose the program that stood out to them the most. AND WE WON!

The judges choice award is dear to me because it is all about the kids and their work. The EAST facilitator is not allowed to be in the booth for this part of the conference so getting this award is really a testament to the quality of the students work and their ability to communicate that effectively. They did it!

Exciting things are happening with EAST at JB Hunt Elementary! 🌟 EAST is education accelerated by service and technology. Our students are diving into amazing projects using 3D printers, sewing machines, vinyl cutters, and industry-leading 2D & 3D design software to make a real difference in our community and school. When given ample time, resources, and a safe place to struggle forward, it is incredible what students can do!

Oh yeah, and a little silliness *football hat* keeps the work fun.

Huge thank you to Mr. Derek Ratchford from the JB Hunt Nature Center for being a guest speaker in EAST at Hunt at JB Hunt Elementary. Mr. Ratchford gave us great perspective on all things JB Hunt Nature Center and helped us brainstorm project ideas for ways we can solve problems and make improvements for our

So proud of these students! It’s incredible when a project crosses the finish line. This is the final result but what you don’t see are the countless hours of research, development, and design iterations. The exploration of learning Canva and Google Sites as well as the community partner meetings with the Downtown Springdale Alliance and Shiloh museum. The learning happens all throughout the process. I’m so thankful for the dedication of these students and the others who contributed to this great project.

Hello EAST at Hunt friends, family, and community partners,

You are invited to the 2024 Springdale EAST Expo! This is an opportunity for EAST programs in Springdale to share about their program, projects and student growth moments from this year. The event will take place on May 15th at the new Springdale High School Arena Auxiliary Gym from 3:30-6:30pm. While the event is drop-in, parent, partner and peer recognitions will formally take place at 4:45pm and 5:45pm if you can make it then!

Parents, partners, school staff, community members…you are all invited to come be inspired by EAST students, elementary school through high school, and learn about how EAST will continue to solve problems and improve our community and schools moving forward.

EAST at Hunt will have our EAST conference booth set up with many examples of student work on display. The 5th grade EAST conference team will be presenting our program to guests as they experience the expo. All students are welcome to stop by the booth and talk to their guests about EAST at Hunt. Our hope is for this to be a conversation starter with your student about the amazing work they are doing in EAST and to gain inspiration from the overall impact EAST is having on our community and schools.
