We are a local, family owned homeschool curriculum & supplies bookstore with both used and new inventory.

We do buy used books & more, and we do have an online store! Open Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-5pm at 1336 Carley Rd, Ste 3 in Springdale, AR. First Homeschool is a homeschool curriculum and resource bookstore. We offer new/used curriculum, a dedicated classroom space for check-out by tutoring vendors, co-ops, individuals, as well as homeschool workshops. Our store also has educational supplies, laminating, copying/scanning in B/W and color, binding equipment, as well as a children's play area. We strive not to be simply a bookstore, but a homeschool resource for the community!

*** CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS: SINGAPORE MATH ***
If you’ve heard homeschool parents rave about **Singapore Math** but wondered why there are so many versions, you’re not alone! **Dimensions Math, Primary Mathematics, and Math in Focus** share the same core approach—but package it differently.
**What they share:** All three emphasize understanding **WHY math works**, not simply memorizing procedures. Students progress from hands-on learning → pictures and models → numbers and equations. Mental math, problem-solving, and **bar modeling** are important throughout.
**DIMENSIONS MATH — Modern & Thorough**
A newer Singapore Math Inc. program with colorful materials, detailed instruction, activities, and optional video support. It also continues through middle school.
**Best for:** Families wanting a modern, comprehensive program with strong parent support.
**PRIMARY MATHEMATICS — Classic & Streamlined**
This is what many longtime homeschoolers picture when they hear “Singapore Math.” Lessons are concise and conceptually strong without as many extras. **Home Instructor’s Guides** help parents teach each concept, while optional practice books can provide more reinforcement.
**Best for:** Families wanting a proven, straightforward program with shorter lessons and a strong **used-curriculum market**.
**MATH IN FOCUS — Structured & School-Like**
Published by HMH, Math in Focus adapts Singapore-style math for American classrooms. It includes detailed teaching materials, assessments, review, enrichment, and extra practice—but has more components and feels more like a traditional school program.
**Best for:** Families wanting structure, scaffolding, and teaching resources.

**Which should you choose?**
➡️ Modern + homeschool support: **Dimensions**
➡️ Classic + simple + budget-friendly: **Primary**
➡️ Structured + resource-heavy: **Math in Focus**

💡 **One important tip:** Don’t automatically buy the grade on the cover! Use the appropriate **placement test**, and when buying used, make sure your textbook, workbook, and instructor/teacher guide are from compatible editions.

*** MONDAY ADDITIONS ***

This week’s Monday Additions bring in a strong mix of language arts, reading, history, science, Spanish, writing, literature, and hands-on learning resources. And remember... PRICES ARE ALWAYS BETTER IN-STORE!

For language arts and grammar, we added Beautiful Teaching Poetic Language Lessons Book I and Book II resources, including instruction guide support and student materials. We also added Literacy Essentials First Grade materials, copy masters, cursive poetry reading practice, and grooved letter practice resources.

For reading and phonics, we added an All About Reading Level 1 set with teacher manual and readers, including The Runt Pig, Run, Bug, Run!, and Cobweb the Cat. These are great for families wanting structured phonics with enjoyable early readers.

History additions include Gather ’Round A New World: U.S. History 1 resources for multiple levels, plus One Year Adventure Novel materials with textbook, teacher guide, student tests, and video lessons.

Science additions include Dr. Jay Wile’s Science in the Ancient World with Helps & Hints support, a strong option for families who like science taught through historical context.

For Spanish, we added See It and Say It Flip Flop Spanish and a Spanish Fun Activity Calendar, both helpful for families wanting a more visual and conversational approach to language learning.

Math and reference additions include a Multiplication & Division facts chart for facts 1–12, fact families, words to know, and quick strategies.

For literature and enrichment, we added Childcraft titles including The Green Kingdom and Stories and Fables, offering classic-style reading, nature, and story selections for family learning.

📚 **CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS: PAGE PUBLICATIONS**

If you want to build a homeschool library filled with books your children will actually want to keep on the shelf, **Page Publications** offers beautiful editions of classic literature at an approachable price—here’s a quick tour and what to look for in stock.

**What it is:** Page Publications isn’t a traditional curriculum program. Instead, it publishes **classic literature, children’s books, collections, and other reading resources** that can easily complement literature-based homeschooling. Their deluxe hardcover classics are especially attractive for building a permanent home library.

**What you’ll find:** Their classic literature collection includes familiar works such as **Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Treasure Island, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Oliver Twist, Moby Dick, Great Expectations, The Call of the Wild & White Fang, The Great Gatsby,** and more.

**How it fits into homeschooling:** Use these books for **independent reading, family read-alouds, literature studies, book reports, vocabulary work, narration, or alongside history curriculum**. Older classics can also provide plenty of material for discussing themes, characters, writing style, and historical context.

This week’s Monday Additions bring in another strong mix of phonics, reading, spelling, science, math, logic, biographies, and hands-on learning resources. And remember...PRICES ARE ALWAYS BETTER IN-STORE!

For early reading and phonics, we added a nice Memoria Press First Start Reading set, including the Teacher Guide, Phonics Flashcards, and Books A–D. We also added Memoria Press Numbers Book Parts One and Two, a Developing the Early Learner set, and a Phonics Tiles magnetic board set for hands-on word building and phonics practice.

For science, we added several LIFEPAC Grade 6 Science student books and teacher support. These are helpful for families looking for workbook-based lessons that can be used independently or alongside parent instruction.

Math additions include a Saxon Math Homeschool 6/5 set with student text, tests and worksheets, and solutions manual support. This is a solid upper-elementary option for families who like steady review, practice, and step-by-step skill building.

For spelling and language arts, we added All About Spelling Level 4 with Teacher’s Manual and Student Packet, plus several Star Wars readers and DK-style reading books for students who enjoy high-interest reading practice.

For logic and critical thinking, we added Intermediate Logic from the Canon Logic Series, including the Teacher Edition and Test & Quiz Packet. This is a great fit for older students working through formal reasoning and propositional arguments.

For biography and faith-based reading, we added several Christian Heroes: Then & Now titles, including Gladys Aylward, David Livingstone, George Müller, Nate Saint, and Amy Carmichael.

**US History & American Studies** — We added books featuring **George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Pocahontas**, and other figures from American history, along with Marilyn Boyer’s *What a Character!* series: **Inventors & Scientists, America’s War Heroes, Famous Pioneers & Frontiersmen,** and **America’s Famous Spies**.

🏛️ **Mystery of History** — *The Mystery of History, Volume I: Creation to the Resurrection, Second Edition* is back on our shelves!

🔬 **Science** — This week includes a **Biology curriculum set with student and teacher materials**, plus Apologia’s *Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day* and its companion Notebooking Journal.

➗ **Math** — We added **Christian Light Mathematics 3** with the Teacher’s Guide and LightUnits, as well as **Saxon Algebra 1/2, Second Edition**.
