I am pleased to announce Midlands Technical College’s Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Monitoring course is open. The course will be held through zoom and all course material will be provided through MTC’s D2L program.
Class Description: This course provides the student the opportunity to establish didactic and clinical competency in monitoring nitrous oxide and oxygen conscious sedation. Included in the course will be (1) SC Board of Dentistry regulations regarding monitoring, (2) the physical properties of nitrous oxide, (3) the physiology and systemic effects of sedation modalities, (4) components of sedation equipment, and (5) assisting in the management of complications related to sedation. (The South Carolina Board of Dentistry has designated this course as an approved course. Successful completion of this course meets the criteria for the candidate to take the SC state board test for certification.) Course done through Zoom.
Prerequisite(s):
1) Copy of current CPR card
2) SC RDH or Expanded Duty Dental Assistant additionally must include one of the following: Certificate of completion from ADA CODA approved dental assisting program; or A detailed statement attesting to completion of two (2) years of continuous full-time employment as a chair-side dental assistant.
3) Access to a computer or Ipad with a camera able to get online for day 2. NO CHROMEBOOK or Phone.
Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Monitoring CEDEN 525-05 is a two day course on ZOOM.
DAY 1: Monday April. 20th, 2026 (5:00 pm to 6:00 pm) on ZOOM to make sure everyone is able to get on D2L and what information each student needs to work on. This meeting should only take about 30 minutes.
Day 2: Friday May 8th, 2026 (8:00 to 3:00) on ZOOM for class and test on D2L.

***Note after this course you will have to apply to SC Board of Dentistry to take the nitrous oxide board in order to monitor nitrous in the office. You will have to take the board exam. See application below.
