Help Us Rebuild the History of Central JH Band!

As we moved into our new band spaces, I’ve been thinking a lot about the storied history of Central Junior High Band and how much of that history is unfortunately missing from our current collection.

Right now, these are the only awards/trophies we have that I know of. We are working to recreate as many of the trophies, plaques, and accomplishments from Central’s past as we possibly can, but I can only go as far back as the information I can find.

At this point, I’ve been able to find concert assessment results dating back to 2003 and marching assessment results dating back to 2005. I know there is SO much more history before those years, and I would love to bring that history back into our band program and display it proudly in our new spaces.

If you are a former student, parent, director, staff member, or just someone who has been connected to Central Band over the years and you have old trophies, plaques, programs, photos, assessment results, newspaper clippings, or memories of accomplishments, I would absolutely love to hear from you!

Even if you aren’t sure whether something is useful, please reach out. A picture of an old trophy or a memory of an event could help us piece together the story.

Here is the 2026-2027 Calendar for CJHS Band. Please reach out if there are any unavoidable conflicts with these dates.
* There are two or three jazz band events for the second semester that will be added at a later time.

For our students transitioning to Har-Ber Band -

Get those physicals done and emailed to [email protected] ASAP!!! The physical exam form needs turned in by Monday, July 27th, in order for your student to participate in early week/marching band. I only need the PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FORM. The HISTORY FORM is for your doctor's office.

Physicals are good for 18 months. So if you turned one in last year and the date of the exam was 6/2025 or later, you are good for this year’s physical.

As we head into the end of the school year, we know that some students may be choosing not to continue in band, graduating, or families may simply be holding onto instruments that are no longer being used.

If your family has an instrument that is sitting unused, we would love to help you pass it along to a current CJHS band student. Many of our students are looking to purchase or upgrade instruments, and this is a great way to keep instruments in use while helping another student continue their musical journey.

If you would like to list an instrument for sale, please contact me at [email protected]. I will add it to a shared instrument list so current students and families can view available options.

I am also happy to look it over with you and help with pricing if you are unsure what a fair range might be. Please note that while we are happy to help connect buyers and sellers, not every instrument may be an ideal fit for our program needs or student level, and I can help guide that conversation if needed.

Yesterday, our jazz band performed at the Arkansas Jazz Educators Network Festival at the University of Central Arkansas. It was their first time attending, and they made it count.

They earned straight superior ratings, had the opportunity to be cliniced by one of UCA’s jazz professors, and represented our school with pride and professionalism. As one of only three junior high groups at the festival, they truly rose to the occasion.

I’m incredibly proud of how they performed and the way they carried themselves throughout the day. Excited to see what’s next for this group!

Parents/Guardians of rising 8th and 9th grade students in the CJHS Band, we hope you'll join us for our Spring Parent Meeting on April 2nd.
