A parent asked me recently,

“How do I know if a piano school is the right fit for my child?” 🎹

It’s a good question because learning piano isn’t just about finding someone who can teach the notes.

Children learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again.

A good piano school should give students structure and clear instruction, but it should also recognize that every child learns differently.

Some students need more repetition. Some move quickly. Some are naturally confident at the piano, while others need a little more time before they feel comfortable playing in front of someone.

That’s why I think the right learning environment matters so much.

Your child should be challenged, but not constantly frustrated. They should be making progress, but they should also still enjoy sitting down at the piano.

Because years from now, I don't just want a student to remember the songs they learned.

I want them to remember that learning piano was something they enjoyed. ❤️🎹

🎹 “They played it perfectly yesterday. What happened?”

If your child suddenly struggles with a piano song they seemed to know yesterday, it doesn't necessarily mean they're going backward.

Learning piano isn't always a straight line.

One day, a section may feel easy. The next day, they might miss notes, forget fi*****ng, or struggle with a rhythm they've played many times before.

That can be a normal part of learning. 🧠🎵

Children are developing several piano skills at once, including:

🎼 Reading notes
👐 Coordinating both hands
🥁 Keeping rhythm
👂 Listening to what they're playing
🧠 Remembering patterns and movements

Some days, all of those pieces come together beautifully. Other days, they don't.

Instead of focusing on one difficult practice session, look at your child's progress over weeks and months.

A rough day at the piano doesn't erase what they've learned. ❤️

Progress isn't always a straight line, and that's okay. 🎹

🎹 Why Do Kids Quit Music Lessons?

Usually, it’s not because they aren’t talented.

Sometimes:

🎵 Practice starts feeling like a chore.
🎵 They don’t notice their progress.
🎵 They rarely get to play music they enjoy.
🎵 They become afraid of making mistakes.
🎵 Lessons move too quickly or too slowly for them.

Kids need structure and consistency, but they also need small wins, encouragement, and room to enjoy the process.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s helping children build a relationship with music they’ll want to keep. ❤️🎶

A parent asked me recently,

“Does my child need a piano at home before starting lessons?” 🎹

The short answer is no, you don't need to have everything figured out before your child begins.

I've talked with plenty of parents who worry that they need the perfect piano, the perfect practice space, or even a child who's already showing musical talent.

You really don't.

What matters most in the beginning is giving your child the opportunity to explore music and seeing how they respond to it.

As they start learning, you'll get a much better sense of what they enjoy, how they learn, and what kind of setup will work best for your family.

I'd much rather have a child start curious and excited than have a parent wait because they think everything needs to be perfect first. ❤️

If your child has been asking about piano or you've been wondering whether they're ready to give it a try, feel free to reach out. I'm always happy to answer questions and help you figure out the best place to start.

A parent asked me this week,

"What's the best age to start piano lessons?" 🎹

I wish there were one simple answer.

Some children are ready at five. Others do much better if they wait another year. Every child develops at their own pace, and that's completely okay.

That's one reason our Piano Lab begins around first grade. By then, most children have the reading skills, focus, and attention span to enjoy learning instead of becoming frustrated.

I've even encouraged parents to wait a little longer when I didn't feel their child was quite ready.

I'd much rather see a child fall in love with music than start too early and struggle.

If you've been wondering whether your child is ready for piano lessons, I'd be happy to answer your questions. Every child is different, and sometimes a quick conversation can help you decide what's best.

🎼 If your child could learn one song on the piano, what would it be? 🎹

One of the best ways to keep children excited about learning is by letting them play music they truly enjoy. ✨

Whether it's a Disney favorite, a movie soundtrack, a worship song, or a popular tune they sing every day, learning a song they love makes every practice session more meaningful and motivating.

At Spring School of Music, we believe piano lessons should inspire confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music—starting with songs that make children smile. 💙

✨ Piano lessons teach more than music. 🎹

When most parents think about piano lessons, they picture learning notes, scales, and songs.

But the greatest lessons often happen beyond the keys.

Through consistent practice, children develop confidence to try new things, patience to keep improving, focus to stay on task, and problem-solving skills that help them overcome challenges—both in music and in everyday life. 🌟

At Spring School of Music, our goal isn't just to teach children how to play the piano. It's to help them grow into confident, resilient, and creative individuals while enjoying every step of their musical journey. ❤️

The skills they build today can benefit them for years to come.

🎹 Give your child the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive through music.
