Lady Grizzly Volleyball finished their season with three out of our four teams winning District! Both 7th grade teams and the 8th grade B teams went 8-0 on the season while the 8th grade A team finished 6-2. What a fantastic season!

Congratulations to the York 8th grade “A” football team on a perfect season and a district championship. First district championship since 2011.

Yesterday the admin team delivered awards to our GROWL recipients. We also delivered our top award to a student who exhibited all of the attributes of the GROWL awards (Growth, Respect, Ownership, and Leadership). Curriculum

I am thankful for your patience and understanding while our teachers' create/re-create lessons for their students. I am extremely impressed with how hard our teachers are working to accommodate our students! Most of the lessons are up and ready. We will also have hard copies of work in filing cabinets at the front doors of York; these hard copies should be ready by Monday afternoon. The cabinets are labeled by department to help with that process.

Facilities Closed

The building is closed to outside visitors. This now includes the track and fields. We were forced to lock them down due to the Governor's declaration of public health disaster. This saddens me as I want the track to always be open to the community outside of school and school activity hours. I am planning on putting together a virtual running group for fun next week. Feel free to share that with your Grizzly(s). You can also be involved if you are looking for some competition!

Band/Orchestra

Instruments will be available for pick up from 10-12 Monday. Parents/Students MUST email in advance so instruments can be pulled. Parents should drive up to the band hall entrance and instruments will be delivered to the vehicle. More details will be provided via email when the appointment is made.

Drill Team Tryouts

Orange Pride Drill Team tryouts have been postponed until further notice. We are looking potentially at a dates in May but are not ready to release those dates yet. We will provide more information in the future.

National Junior Honor Society

In light of when we might return to school (April 13th), a digital application packet through Google Forms has been created. This would be for candidates that received a blue academic eligibility invitation to apply to the chapter of NJHS before Spring Break. Candidates can type the same necessary information into the digital application as they would if submitting a hard copy application. They can also upload their one-page essay, personal recommendation, and teacher recommendations, if they were in the process of handing recommendations out before break.

Candidates can also submit the hard copy upon our return, but applicants can also fill out the application packet digitally. The new due date is also stated in the form (April 17, 2020), assuming we return on April 13th.

While schools are closed to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), please protect yourselves and others by following CDC recommendations. You can help protect your family from COVID-19 by practicing and promoting everyday healthy habits.

Practice social distancing to limit the spread of the virus. Social distancing is staying 3-6 feet from other people and not hugging or shaking hands.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. If you or your child are sick, stay at home and contact your healthcare provider.

Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Cover your cough or sneeze with the inside of your elbow or a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Viruses are spread more easily with this type of contact.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a face mask, which does not recommend that people who are well wear a face mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19. Face masks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Conroe ISD will be distributing free meals to students on Tuesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 19. Students may pick up meals from 10 AM - 1 PM or as long as they last. Meals will be distributed curbside at the front of Austin Elementary, Caney Creek High School, Conroe High School, Grand Oaks High School, Hauke High School, Knox Junior High, Oak Ridge High School, The Woodlands College Park High School, The Woodlands High School, and Washington Junior High.

Due to the ever-changing situation regarding COVID-19 and in the best interest of the health, safety, and well-being of its students, staff, community, and the citizenship at large, Conroe ISD will be closed next week, March 16-20. Congrats to Valerie and Jocelyn for winning first place this weekend in the junior high EDC Robotics competition for Conroe ISD. They competed all day against teams from around the district and came out on top!
