When you’re scared to miss, it’s hard to throw without tension.

Instead of demanding perfection, give pitchers a clear intention with room for error.

If the goal is arm side, don’t shrink the target to one spot. Give them the entire arm side and let it rip in case it’s a strike.

Be mindful of what gets rewarded. It directly impacts the movement solutions that show up when game pressure is added.

Give guys room to miss, adjust, and find solutions.

Make pitching less scary.

If your velo is stuck and your answer is to keep getting on the mound and ripping at 100%, it might be time to change the problem.

Mound work has its place, but there’s only so much adaptation that can come from constantly expressing the throw you already have.

Sometimes you need to step away from the full throw and expose yourself to something that forces you to adapt and find new movement solutions.

Give your throw a reason to change. Then return to the mound and rip.

Don’t overdo your recovery days chasing throws trying to feel something.

Get some blood flow, find some rhythm, and move without overthinking. Your mechanics at 50% won’t look or feel the same as they do at 100%, so don’t go searching for something that isn’t there.

Keep the low days low and the high days high.

Instead of telling an athlete “don’t cut the ball,” make the feedback louder.

A volleyball can act as a donor sport to exaggerate the outcome. If the athlete gets even slightly around it, the spin and ball flight make the mistake obvious.

The implement isn’t magic. It simply makes the result more obvious, allowing the athlete to find solutions externally through experience rather than internally thinking about how to move. This gives those movement solutions a better chance to stick when pressure is added in the game.

Learning to move fast starts with moving fast.

Sprint. Compete. Have fun. Become a better athlete.

When working with a new athlete, it’s important to understand that their past environments have shaped the athlete standing in front of us. Think of it like a cake. Every input has been an ingredient contributing to what exists today.

By understanding what has already gone in, we can better determine what needs to come next, meet the athlete where they are, and create something wonderful.
