• They’re disappointed to stay home from school when sick.
• They point out the stages of the hero’s journey during family movie night.
• They insist on returning to the studio as quickly as possible after a dentist or doctor appointment.

When children see themselves as heroes on a journey, school stops being something done to them and becomes their mission.

One small change that makes a big difference at home.

Instead of “You’re so smart,” try:
• “You worked hard on that.”
• “You stuck with it, even when it was hard.”
• “You tried a new strategy. That took courage.”

Language like this trains kids to see struggle as a path to growth, not a sign that something is wrong with them.
