What's your strategy for navigating high-stress situations as a leader?
After being an executive leadership coach for years, I can tell you that it requires more than just tactical business skills.
๐ It demands an acute awareness of your body's signals and responses.
When I recently took on the unofficial role of wedding planner, reception event coordinator, and officiant for a friend's wedding, I was faced with numerous stressors. From coordinating tricky logistics to ensuring the ceremony met the diverse expectations of the family, the pressure was high.
๐คฉ What helped me stay resilient and graceful was my ability to listen to and understand my body's messages. I used my Attuned Leader Formula every step of the way so I didn't get depleted or too overwhelmed.
Research shows that effective leaders manage stress by paying attention to their body's signals and practicing mindfulness, which helps in maintaining a calm and focused mind under pressure. By tuning into these signals, leaders make better decisions, communicate more effectively, and are less depleted by the constant demands.
This body-focused approach to leadership and stress management is precisely what I'll be teaching in my upcoming complimentary virtual training for women, "The Well" on Thursday, June 6th, noon - 1:00 pm ET.
Join me and learn experientially how to apply the Attuned Leader Formula in your personal and professional life.
The steps are:
Receive the messages your body is communicating. That means to be intentional to notice them.
Reflect on what the sensation feels like and where it is located in your body.
Respond to that sensation in a way that supports your system to show up as you desire.

๐ A Lesson in Embodied Boundaries From My 6 Year-Old ๐
Ever had that sinking feeling when you agree to something, only to realize later that it doesn't sit right with you? We've all been there, and it's a lesson my 6 year-old daughter recently learned in a playful, yet powerful way.
Playing with the "big girls" on the street, my daughter excitedly agreed to be painted with red chalk paste. The fun quickly turned into discomfort as her face, hair, arms, legs, and clothes were covered in the messy, red mixture.
As she walked into the house with a frown, I knew instantly what had happened โ she had experienced the all-too-familiar effects of the 'Good Woman Narrative,' where we say yes to please others, even if it means stifling our own feelings and boundaries.
This was a valuable teaching moment. I immediately validated that she didn't want the chalk all over her, but she couldn't find her voice. She was afraid to speak up. I shared (age-appropriate) stories of when I'd made similar mistakes and how important it is to prioritize her safety needs, even if it's not what others want.
In the end, I asked her what she learned from the experience and she said, "When I don't like something, the right thing is to say it right away. I don't have to worry about what other people want if my body says it's not okay."
๐๐๐๐๐
I believe the lessons were further integrated when she had to get a bath and scrub head to toe to get the red off her scalp and skin. ๐ฌ
As an Executive Leadership Coach and the creator of Attuned Leadership, I've seen firsthand the power of listening to and responding to your body's messages and aligning your words with your inner voice. This harmony reduces stress, boosts confidence, and enhances your presence and impact. It's a powerful tool for both personal and professional settings.
If you feel this skill can help you, I'd love to invite you on an Attuned Leadership journey! I have 3 coaching spaces available starting this June โ let's work together to create a life where how you spend your time, energy, and attention is in alignment with your body - so you can reach your goals without compromising satisfaction or sustainability.

โจ Embracing the power of body language can be a game-changer in the workplace to build visibility and recognition! ๐งจ If there's one situation where 'fake it until you make it' is justified, it's when intentionally shifting your body language to exude confidence and assertiveness. ๐ช
๐บ Women often face double binds in the workplace, where they're criticized for being too assertive or too passive. It can be a tough balance to strike, especially without strong female role models to look up to. But fear not, because you can fake it till you make it!
๐ By consciously adjusting your body language and tone of voice, you can command respect and project confidence in any situation. Whether it's standing tall, making eye contact, or using strategic gestures, these small changes can make a big impact on how you're perceived at work. ๐ซ
๐ฉโ๐ผ So next time you're feeling unsure or hesitant, remember that you have power in nonverbal communication.

How often do you check in with your physiological sensations during high-stakes conversations?
By listening to your body and being present in the moment to your physiological sensations, you can better understand when to speak up and when to hold back. This simple practice can help you navigate high-stakes conversations with confidence and clarity.
Tomorrow, I'm proud to be leading an intimate Executive Roundtable conversation with women in executive leadership and business ownership. Roundtables are an excellent way to share experiences and learn from one another.
The topic is 'Communication that Gets Buy-In and Compels Action from Teams and Stakeholders.'
It may surprise you to learn that studies show that 55% of how we're perceived is based on our nonverbal communication, 38% is tone of voice, and only 7% is our actual words. ๐คจ
I'm opening up registration for the next Executive Roundtable on this topic in May. If you want to RSVP to claim a seat send me a private message!

Hey ladies! ๐ช Did you know that the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission just released a new dashboard of pay data that highlights the persisting gender pay gap? ๐ฑ It's pretty eye-opening to see just how much work still needs to be done in closing this gap. According to the data, women are still trailing behind in terms of earnings, with no states, jobs, or industries where women outearned men. In fact, a whopping 71% of high earners were men. ๐
It's clear that we still have a long way to go in achieving gender equity, but the first step is having transparency with pay data from employers. The more we know, the more we can push for change. ๐ฐ
Kim Elsesser's article dives deeper into this issue, and it's definitely worth a read. Let's keep fighting for equal pay and the future of work that values and rewards everyone equally! ๐ซ

Because I believe that one of the most powerful accelerants of women's career success is knowledge sharing, I invite you to join my upcoming Executive Roundtable. It's free. It's virtual. It will give you valuable insights into how to elevate your communication during uncomfortable moments so you speak up with confidence and authenticity.
๐ก Traditional leadership development often fails to equip women with strategies to effectively address gender bias. Much of what is commonly suggested for women to do instead reinforces the harmful stereotypes that they are 'too emotional' or 'too much.'
๐ The focus of this roundtable "Communication that Gets Buy-In and Compels Action from Teams and Stakeholders" is to facilitate peer-to-peer discussion about practical and effective ways to communicate that get our voices heard, our ideas validated, and builds trust for our initiatives.
There are 3 more seats available for women in upper leadership for this virtual event: March 26th, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EST, Zoom
Don't miss this opportunity! Message me to secure your spot.

This may go against conventional wisdom, but I believe, as women, we must be willing to communicate in moments when we feel discomfort or when our boundaries are being crossed. It's a critical key to our success. ๐ช
Unfortunately, many of us have been conditioned to fear pushback and criticism when we assert ourselves. But remember, our words should not be filtered through a 'too much' or 'not enough' trap.
By perpetually suppressing your voice, it trains others in how to treat you.
What stops you from speaking up when your body is nudging (or sometimes yelling) you to? Is it fear? Is it an internal voice that says, "Shhhhh. It's better not to call it out. Just deal with it?"
Imagine what's possible when you respond to those body messages and let them lead you!
--------------
If you're as inspired as I am to releasing the conditioning that keeps you from speaking up, then download and listen to Epsiode 026 on the Attuned Leadership for Women podcast. It's titled "Speak Like a Leader: Influential Communication Strategies with Alexia Vernon" for a reason. Whether you are entry level or a seasoned executive professional, this podcast has insights for you. ๐ฅ

A study by the International Labour Organization found that women's participation in the global labor force is around 47%, yet they occupy only about 29% of senior management roles (and even fewer executive roles). ๐คฏ
As a professional woman, how can you 'act as if it were possible to radically transform the world' by breaking down barriers, challenging gender norms, and supporting other women in their pursuit of leadership positions?
I'd love to hear your ideas. ๐๐ผ
