International Dot Day! We made our mark!

Making a mark and seeing where it takes you!

Holmes Elementary School took International Dot Day to the next level yesterday, celebrating creativity, courage, and self-expression across every hallway!

Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ beloved book The Dot, every classroom started the day reading the story before turning simple circles into imaginative works of art. From students sporting their best polka-dot outfits to classes teaming up to build one massive, collaborative dot, our youngest Lakers proved that big ideas start with small beginnings.

Way to show off that creative spirit and make your mark, Holmes!

International Dot Day is inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot, a story about having the courage to try, make your mark, and see where your creativity can take you. It’s a day to celebrate creativity, confidence, and the idea that even one small mark can be the beginning of something wonderful.

We have some fun Dot Day activities planned for students throughout the day, and we invite your child to join in on the fun by wearing polka dots to school tomorrow!

If you don’t have anything with polka dots, here are a few other fun ways to “wear your dots”:
👕 Draw dots on a plain shirt using washable or fabric markers.
🖍️ Create a “Dot Day” button out of paper and tape it to their shirt.
🔵 Add stickers to a shirt or sweatshirt to create your own Dot Day design!
⚽ Wear a sports shirt featuring a ball!
We can’t wait to see all of the creativity and colorful dots around the classroom tomorrow!
“Just make a mark and see where it takes you.”
