Lakers in Action: JT Hogan!

Few people see the late nights and endless hours that go into being an Athletic Director, but JT Hogan makes every single minute count for our district.

Throughout his time in Spring Lake, JT has continually expanded opportunities for our students and families, mentored student leaders, and celebrated every athlete who wears the red and gray. His "head down, keep working, keep improving" mentality sets the tone for our entire athletic department—and serves as a model for our coaches, students, and community alike.

When the Michigan weather is as gorgeous as it was late last week, the outdoors become your classroom!

Ms. Johnson’s and Ms. Van Lente-Vink’s classes took their science lesson down to Lloyd’s Bayou to study Earth’s four spheres—the geosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere. Students observed firsthand how these systems interact and shape our local ecosystem.

Hands-on learning on a beautiful day right here in our own backyard! ❤️

The Student's View: Zozz Chalupa!

Last year, our Laker Choirs went to New York to sing at Carnegie Hall.

Now, Bella Voce, one of the choirs that went to New York, is back to the music grind. We're learning five pieces for our Spooktacular concert, as well as a clinic we will be doing in November at Central Michigan University.

Even though we performed at Carnegie Hall and hit our goals doesn't mean we can stop becoming better musicians. As they say at Carnegie: "Practice, Practice, Practice!"

Strategic Plan Check-In as we're halfway through our 5-year plan.

🎯 Goal: Embed critical thinking standards across all grade levels and subjects.
📊 Status: 🟡 Progressing

Real critical thinking happens when students take the lead on their own learning! When our classrooms feature healthy debate, deep collaboration, and teachers acting as "guides on the side," heavy brain lifting is taking place.

Our educators actively use PLC (Professional Learning Community) time to design lessons that naturally embed these critical thinking skills into every subject, K-12. We’re proud of the progress our Lakers are making, and we're committed to keeping that momentum going!

Being HEART Smart doesn't stop at the classroom door! 🚌

Over the last two weeks, our bus drivers—including Mr. Luke!—visited Holmes Elementary School and Jeffers Elementary School to teach our students how to bring honesty, empathy, and respect to their daily bus rides.

From the first morning pick-up to the final evening drop-off, our positive behavior system spans the entire district so our kids feel supported everywhere they go.

I always love to visit the new developments at the school, and my team went together during practice to check them out. It was a lot of fun!

Making a mark and seeing where it takes you!

Holmes Elementary School took International Dot Day to the next level yesterday, celebrating creativity, courage, and self-expression across every hallway!

Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ beloved book The Dot, every classroom started the day reading the story before turning simple circles into imaginative works of art. From students sporting their best polka-dot outfits to classes teaming up to build one massive, collaborative dot, our youngest Lakers proved that big ideas start with small beginnings.
