Our elementary students finished the year with a vibrant Spanish celebration, highlighting both language and culture in a hands-on way.

Students learned that there are 21 Spanish-speaking countries and each chose one to represent by creating a flag and a matching bracelet for our end-of-year celebration. On that bracelet? Spanish words they’ve learned this year!

It was a meaningful way to connect geography, culture, and creativity all in one project.

As we reflect on the school year, we're reminded that some of the best learning happens when students step beyond the classroom. In the AP world, it can be so tempting to do nothing at all when the tests are done--but not these teachers!

Our AP U.S. History students brought their studies to life with a visit to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. AP Statistics students transformed the soccer field into the annual AP Stats Olympics, using games, data collection, and analysis to answer real research questions. And AP Environmental Science students partnered with younger Lakers to learn about and care for the Grand River shoreline.

Three classes. Three unique experiences. One shared goal: making learning meaningful, memorable, and connected to the world around us.

What a great way to finish the year.

In a recent New York Times interactive article titled "Look Up Your School District's Test Scores," the national headline was a sobering one: American math and reading test scores have fallen across the country.

But when you look closer at the data points for our community, the story is entirely different. Not only is Spring Lake Public Schools already performing at two grade levels above the national average, but we are actually improving our scores! 📈

To say we are proud of our students, educators, families, and community-at-large is an understatement. Operating in this kind of "rarefied air" doesn't happen by accident—it is the direct result of the relentless hard work, dedication, and high standards kept by our entire Laker community day in and day out.

Subscribers and those with access can view the interactive data and see the Laker difference for themselves here:

The Spring Lake Schools Foundation spring silent auction excitement continues! Today, another wonderful group of our educators and students wanted to show off their fun when they teamed up for an unforgettable afternoon centered around creativity, imagination, and serious memory-making.

This incredible auction experience truly had it all: pizza, a perfect mix of salty and sweet snacks, awesome gift bags, and a massive dose of fun! Students got to let their creative juices flow while building lasting friendships and sharing plenty of laughs.

A huge thank you to our amazing Laker parents for bidding on these unique experiences and supporting our schools. Your generosity doesn't just fund vital Foundation grants—it creates beautiful moments of pure joy and connection for our kids!

The Spring Lake Schools Foundation gives an incredible amount of support to our educators throughout the year—and our educators love giving right back!

During the final weeks of school, teachers Jacob Cook and Maura Gray treated the lucky winners of the Foundation's spring silent auction to an absolute classic afternoon: a mini-golf showdown followed by a sweet ice cream outing.

While Mr. Cook technically walked away with the official victory on the scorecard, the real win happened at the ice cream counter. Everyone got a scoop, meaning everyone walked away a winner in the end!

Thank you to the Spring Lake Schools Foundation for everything they do to lift up our schools, and a huge shoutout to Jacob and Maura for donating their time to create such a fun, memorable experience for our Laker community!

Right at the end of the year, our Holmes Elementary 4th graders showed us all what it truly means to have a big heart! After working hard to earn an incredible $1,000 from their Market Day, the students held a special assembly to donate 100% of the proceeds to a deeply meaningful cause.

At the heartfelt request of Jill Carlson, the money was donated to Kenzie’s Be Cafe in loving honor of her daughter, Sylvia Carlson. We were so incredibly moved to have both Jill and the owner of Kenzie's Be Café join us at the assembly so our students and staff could honor them in person.

We want to encourage all of our Laker families to add a trip to Kenzie's Be Café to your summer bucket list. Located right in our neighboring community, it is a powerful business with a more powerful mission—providing meaningful employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Way to go, Holmes 4th graders, for turning your hard work into an act of pure kindness and community love!
