At Spring Lake Public Schools, we deeply believe that literacy and learning are at our core—but we also know that nothing matters if a child is hungry. Ensuring our students are nourished and healthy is a community effort that doesn't stop when the school doors close for the summer.

Even though our district isn't hosting an on-site summer meal program this year, our Food Services department wants to make sure every family knows exactly where to find free, nutritious meals all summer long.

Through the Michigan Summer Meals program, children and teens 18 and under can receive free meals at various locations across the state:
✅ No sign-ups or registration required.
✅ No proof of residency or ID needed.
✅ 100% free—just show up and enjoy!

This week, we'll be celebrating our retirees in their own words!

Let's continue with Nancy Ireland, a music teacher for the district. Nancy has worked in education for 31 years, 20 of them at Spring Lake Public Schools.

Nancy’s plans for retirement? I’m going to travel, spend time with my family and with my rescue dog, Rose.

Nancy’s favorite part of working for SLPS? My favorite part of teaching music in Spring Lake is seeing the growth over the years of so many students and working with AMAZING colleagues!

Nancy’s words of wisdom? I cannot say it better than Plato: "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything."
