I often hear the question, “Should I purchase IEW’s student structure and style videos or sign up for an online class with an instructor?” While there are pros and cons to each, I would say that with the biggest determining factor is feedback on the papers.
In the classes, you will typically get paper grading whereas with the videos, you’ll need to act as your students’ editor yourself or hire a proofreader. So the pros of an online class are that you have an instructor to ask questions of, interact with, and receive feedback from, but on the flip side, cost may be a deterrant.
The best thing about the videos is that nobody presents the IEW material like Andrew Pudewa himself with his wonderful rapport with students, witty personality, and in-depth discussions. However the video classes often exceed an hour and obviously the students don’t get feedback on their papers. Either way, you can’t go wrong with IEW as your writing curriculum.
If you do need paper proofreading, that is a service that I offer as a certified IEW instructor. Contact me with questions.
