Hoping your kiddos had a great first (short) week in our classrooms! We loved meeting and getting to know everyone.

Our quote was a great one today! We had a GREAT conversation on what it means to
be the leaders of the building. Now that we are the oldest, everyone’s eyes will be on us.

We also played a dice game and used our marker board tables to work on number sense.
After rolling a dice, and creating numbers by moving around the digits, we practiced the key words “digit, place, and value.” We will continue to build on our number sense next week as we get into number forms, relationship between values and rounding.

Case of the School Invaders activity:

We started a math mystery today. We will work on it most of next week. Each clue we solve gets us closer to solving the mystery. The clues we solve review place value (digit, place, value), addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, rounding and different number forms.

Today we took our Fall Acadience Benchmark in math. The kiddos worked incredibly hard and we truly appreciated their effort!

We will take this three times throughout the year. It gives me a lot of information on what your kiddo already knows and what he or she may need help with. It also allows me to start pre-teaching some content to kiddos who may be ready for more of a challenge.

The first assessment is a computation assessment. There are 25 problems and kiddos have 5 minutes to answer as many as they can. The questions include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and adding or subtracting fractions.

The next assessment is Concepts and Applications (word problems). There are 20 problems and kiddos have 10 minutes to solve as many as they can. They are unable to use calculators and I am not able to read any of the problems to them. The problems cover the entire 4th grade curriculum so most kiddos are only able to answer a few at this time of year.

I will work on scoring them this weekend and we will graph our results early next week. We will then set individual goals for much we’d like to improve each week when we begin our progress monitoring in Cycle 3. Eventually, you will be able to view their scores, and track their progress, once we graph them in our Schoology page.

Today’s Quote….

This is one of my favorite parts of the day. Each day we will start with a special quote. Kiddos will have a chance to reflect on it, discuss it with their table partners, and then share out with the class if they choose to. The quotes represent little messages, words of encouragement, or insights on how to become the best version of yourself. We will spend a lot of time building on these and reflecting on these throughout the year.

Day 1 is in the books! We had a great first day with our kiddos. Hoping they had a great day with us!

We started the day by combining both classes. We spent some time introducing ourselves, going over our classroom rules and expectations, and talked a lot about things we hope to accomplish this year.
