What do you see here?

If your answer is, “A few simple T-posts and what looks like a fire ring made from bricks and blocks,” then you’d be absolutely right.

But what does this have to do with Adirondack Knife Works and making knives?

That’s where things get interesting.

As we look toward 2027, we’re going back to our roots back to what started this entire journey in the first place.

Before the knives, there was a passion for wilderness skills, bushcraft, and learning how to become more capable in the outdoors. I spent years learning through hands-on experience, books, YouTube, and instructors like Kevin Estela & Brian Manning. Eventually, that passion grew into teaching those skills myself and eventually into making the tool I wanted to carry into the woods.

That became Adirondack Knife Works.

But we don't want to stop at making the knife.

We want to show you what the knife is actually for.

That’s why our YouTube channel is now ADK FIELD NOTES.

Going forward, you’ll see much more than knife builds. We’ll be putting our knives to work in the field and showing how they fit into practical outdoor skills from fire and shelter building to woodcraft, camp projects, wilderness skills, and even game processing (assuming I can actually get lucky enough to bring something home 😂).

The goal is simple:

Make the knife.
Use the knife.
Teach the skills.
Get outside.

And that brings us right back to those T-posts and that fire ring.

Because they’re not just a couple of things sitting in the woods.

They’re the beginning of something.

We’re building the foundation for what comes next, and we’d love for you to come along for the ride.

Well took a an hour today to get my competition chopper started seeing Makers Camp is weeks away. We have specific criteria to go by so I took my Kodiak design and made it bigger lol in doing so got me thinking about 2 new designs that may or may not be a hit bit we'll see when we get there lol any way here are some pics before heat treat to give you an idea of looks and sizing lol.

THE MODERN KEPHART
Coming January 1, 2027
A classic American woods knife. Rebuilt for the modern woodsman.
There are knife designs that come and go.
And then there are designs that become part of the history of the woods.
The Kephart is one of them.
Designed around the philosophy of legendary woodsman and author Horace Kephart, the pattern has endured for generations for one simple reason:
It works.
At Adirondack Knife Works, we've always believed that a good woods knife shouldn't exist simply to look good sitting on a shelf.
It should earn its place in your hand.
So we went back to the fundamentals of the Kephart pattern and asked a simple question:
What would the Kephart look like if we built it today?
The answer is the Modern Kephart.
A traditional American woods knife, refined with modern materials, modern steels, and the fit and finish of a contemporary handmade knife—while keeping the practical spirit of the original firmly intact.
The Design
The Modern Kephart features a high saber grind, giving the blade a strong combination of cutting performance, durability, and the kind of robust geometry you'd expect from a knife designed to actually work in the woods.
The foundation of the handle is American hickory, paired with layered liners for a distinctive Adirondack Knife Works look.
And because this knife is meant to be carried and used, every Modern Kephart will come standard with a handcrafted leather sheath from JRE Industries.
The First Drop — January 1, 2027
We're starting with just 10 knives.
5 — 80CrV2
5 — A8 Mod
All ten will feature:
Hickory handles
Maroon liners
High saber grind
Hand-finished construction
Brass hardware
JRE Industries leather sheath
Adirondack Knife Works craftsmanship
This first run is where the Modern Kephart begins.
Later releases will expand the liner options with:
Toxic/Lime Green • Blue • Black • Orange
But we're starting with maroon.
Because every knife needs a beginning.
And we want to remember exactly where this one started.
