During the month of February, Evergreen students studied what it meant to be a good citizen. From following rules and respecting others to respecting the environment and learning about one's community.

Lots to know about being a good citizen.

Wrapping up the month, and during the Student of the Month virtual assembly, kids and staff shared a reminder to, "Be a good citizen."

Enjoy!

Take some Cold Play, add a few pool noodles, a dash of glow stick, and a generous helping of 5th grade mojo to get a fantastic grand finale to last night's 5th grade music program.

A little teaser to last night's Mustang Mallet's performance...

The community came out for the 5th grade music program.

Thank you very much, Evergreen Mustang families!

Before last night’s 5th grade music program, the Mustang Mallets led by music teacher, Karin Llyr performed several songs.

As you can imagine, the music was wonderful!

Today, each classroom received a copy of the book Thump, Wiggle, Wiggle, Pop (written by our own 3rd grade teacher, Joy Evans).

Each teacher read the book to their class, as the photos of Ms. Evans herself would illustrate. Afterward, all students discussed ways to spread kindness around their community and world.

K-2 focused on kind actions (ways to show kindness). 3-5 focused on kind words/quotes.

Teachers wrote ideas on whiteboards and chart paper before the activity and students choose an example and wrote on their own stamped heart.

The PBIS team hung the hearts on our Display of Kindness Tree, to end the day, also pictured.

In addition, teachers were given supplies to create friendship bracelets with a buddy class—a combination of a primary class with an intermediate classroom of kids.

Students worked together with their buddies to create a friendship bracelet for their buddy.

We’re proud that this activity encouraged community, friendship, and kindness!

Mrs. Gortsema’s 1st and 2nd graders spent the month of February learning about kindness.

They finished up the month completing three acts of kindness.

They created a poster for our school nurses, wrote thank you notes, and delivered snack bags to some of the adults in school.

Way to go, Mustangs!

Our intermediate resource room teacher, Heidi Kieper does such an amazing job of including kids.

She even takes her lunch period to host a special opportunity on Fridays for students—hosting a Lunch Bunch.

Today she invited not only her typical intermediate students, but a couple of second graders as well.

A big hit for all involved!

Look at this group. Quite a big group indeed.

Every Friday we celebrate our Students of the Week. Kids acting in a safe, respectful, responsible, and kind way.

We always have a good, big group, but look at this crew! Some awesome ones for sure!

Today was the day!

Despite the elements of rain and wind, Second Harvest’s Mobile Market was at school taking care of our community and those nearby.

Thanks to our social worker, Ms. Tina for her planning, and organizing of the event.

It is so exciting to see our young, emergent readers learning to the levels that they are, and moving along to decoratable readers and finding success with real books!

Our Learning Assistance Program is making a difference!

Recently in our library/tech space, library information/technology specialist Mrs. Hood had our students very engaged with programming and coding.

Computers, iPads, robots, Ozobots, and Legos were all used in the efforts.

It was witnessed that the students were collaborative, cooperative, good listeners, and team players throughout.

It’s very easy to see that this fifth grade work could transfer to further opportunities in school and in the workplace down the line.

Another pair of great kids reciting the Pledge of Allegiance during our morning announcements.

I know this sounds crazy, but it’s true!

Our amazing cooks in our “Evergreen Café” served up salmon and teriyaki sauce for lunch…with yummy, roasted potatoes on the side.

I cannot think of any other time in the last ten years where nutrition services served salmon. With a grant, the school district was able to purchase wild-caught salmon and offer our students the opportunity to try it.

Weather kids enjoyed the meal, had a tasty lunch, or didn’t care for the salmon at all, nutrition services offered our students an opportunity to at least give it a go.

And I’m super appreciative of that!

Do you have a 5th grade going to Mountainside Middle School next year? Don't miss the Parent & Student Night tomorrow evening. This is a great opportunity to see the school, meet the principals, learn about classes and ask questions.

It never gets old hearing our students sharing the Pledge with their classmates over the intercom to begin the day.

Mrs. Meehan's class celebrates kids that "Burst with Pride."

1st graders are recognized throughout a day and week for making good positive choices in the classroom setting. Then they are celebrated at the end of the week.

Lucky for Mr. Danford, they drop by his office, celebrate, and get themselves a special "My Principal is Proud of Me" pencil.

Yea for these hardworking Mustangs!

So, so fun to celebrate our Students of the Week last Friday. These kiddos were super excited to spend a few minutes with Mr. Danford and get their picture taken. The also recieved a bookmark and a few blue feedback tickets.

They are great young ones displaying safe, respectful, responsible, and kind behaviors all week!

02/20/2024

Feel free to drop by between 10:00-11:00, is you wish!

Call Ms. Tina if you need more information.

Today was the 4th Grade Chess Championship Game and it was a nail biter! Both students did an amazing job, all the way to the end!

All 4th grade chess members game down to support and watch the final game! They have all worked so hard to get to this point!

It has been such a joy to watch them learn and grow!

Well done Chess Club!

Don't forget. No late start tomorrow.

Please make plans to attend report card conferences. You can call the office, if you have yet to make an appt. time.

Th 5th Grade Chess Championship Tournament Game was intense today!

It was a great game with incredible skills and sportsmanship from both sides!

All students received medals for their hard work and dedication to Chess!

Says teacher and program planner/organizer Mrs. Kieper, “It’s been an absolute pleasure guiding these young minds and building and strengthening their skills!”

Mrs. Phillips read "Extra Yarn" by Mac Barnett to Mrs.Sneed’s and Mrs. Meehan's 1st grade classes followed by a few yarn activities in TLC (The Living Classroom) to spread some love and color, just like the little girl Annabelle did in the book with her yarn.
