Artist Highlight: Eli Wegele
Creative Artist/Edwardsville, KS

Eli has been a Creative Artist at Herff Jones since 2019 and has worked in the design industry for over 10 years as a Graphic Designer. He's had the chance to work on a variety of creative projects in his career; everything from greeting cards and small business branding, to apparel graphics and vehicle wraps. When he is not at Herff Jones, Eli enjoys watercolor painting, playing the piano, and going on adventures outdoors with his wife and 4 kids!

Did you know at camp you and your students will have a chance to meet with a cover artist to help design your unique cover! You will have a reserved hour to sit down with our skilled artists to get a solid cover done before the school year even starts!

Artist Highlight: Kirk Headley
Creative Artist | Logan, UT

Kirk has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for over 30 years, working in various industries including sportswear manufacturing, newspaper production, software and game development, p2p music download technology, 3D architectural rendering and now, yearbook design.

His first version of Photoshop came on a floppy disc and had no layers and only one undo!

He is also an airbrush and mural artist, and has helped create huge themed environments for churches throughout the country and backdrops for theatres in Arizona and Utah.

Keynote Speaker Highlight: Justin Daigle

Justin advises Reflections, the yearbook at Brighton High School in Brighton, Colorado. Justin just won the JEA First Amendment Press Freedom award and was elected as the Vice President of JEA. His staff won a Pacemaker and Best of Show awards for their 2021 book at the JEA Convention last spring. His staff has been nominated for another Crown and a Pacemaker for the 2022 book this spring!

Justin’s passion for yearbook is something we love sharing with you at camp. He is full of energy and enthusiasm that will seep into your students!

Keynote speaker highlight: Makena Busch

Makena advises Pantera, the yearbook at Mead High School in Spokane, Washington. Makena and her staff won a Gold Crown, a Pacemaker and a Best of Show award for their 2021 book at the JEA Convention last spring. Her staff is nominated to win another Gold Crown for their 2022 book this spring!

Makena continually shares her love and enthusiasm for yearbook. She loves developing relationships with her yearbook staff and teaching design and theme.

Keynote speaker highlight: Mike Simons.

Mike SImons advises Tesserae, the yearbook at Corning-Painted Post High School in upstate New York. The past president of the Columbia Scholastic Press Advisers' Association, Simons was named the JEA H.L. Hall Yearbook Adviser of the Year in 2021. His students have won numerous CSPA Gold Crowns and NSPA Pacemakers, including honors for their video and digital content. He is a regular presenter and instructor at workshops, conventions and camps nationwide, with a special emphasis on theme and photography, and considers coffee a food group.

Mike and his staff are dedicated in sharing the love of yearbooking to everyone they come in contact with. We are excited to have him as one of our keynote speakers this year!

It's time to start thinking about your theme for next year! Bring your theme ideas to camp where you will compile a complete theme packet. You and your students will have a chance to review your theme with an assigned mentor from our keynote speakers. Be sure to check out some theme ideas in our photo section!

10-10:15 Welcome
10:15-10:45 Large Group Ice breaker
10:45-11:15 Small group ice breaker
11:15-11:45 Keynote speaker
11:45-12:15 Lunch
12:30-1:30 Theme Work Time (Meet with Mentor)
1:30-2pm Keynote Speaker
2:10-4pm Workshop classes
4-4:45 Keynote Speaker
4:45-5:45 Theme work time
5:45-6:30 Dinner
6:30-7:30 Team Trivia
7:30-11 Theme packet work time/open computer lab.
