This past Friday and Saturday students traveled to Pasco, WA and Columbia Basin College to compete and perform at the Jazz Unlimited Festival. Treble Choir competed on the "Concert Choirs" day and Jazz Choir competed on the "Jazz Choirs" day. Both groups received great praise from the clinicians and judges and scored very highly! Treble Choir brought home 3rd place and a superior rating and Jazz Choir brought home 2nd place and a superior rating. Northwood was the only Middle School participating to earn the "Outstanding Vocal Department" award for their combined scores over the 2 days of the festival - that makes 4 years in a row that we have earned this honor!

Special shoutout and thanks to Edwin Wu for playing piano with the Treble Choir and being the only student pianist on Concert Choir day!

Please give a big shout out to our amazing Jazz Band 1 students. They did another full sweep in defending the grand sweepstakes trophy in this year's Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho for the 2nd year in a row. They won the overall Junior Grand Sweepstakes beating all of the jazz bands and jazz choirs from the other performance sites on campus (35+ ensembles) Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our outstanding young musicians. 😀

***TWO-HOUR DELAY TODAY - WED., DEC. 17, 2025***

Due to inclement weather and difficult road conditions, the Mead School District will be on a two-hour delay to start school today, Wednesday, Dec. 17.

With this two-hour delay occurring on a Wednesday, buses will run two hours later than the regular-day (M, T, Th, F) schedule. This means add two hours to your M, T, Th, F bus pick-up and school start-time schedule.

Wednesday, Dec. 17 - School Start Time:
K-5 Elementary - 11:00 a.m.
6-8 Middle School - 9:55 a.m.
9-12 High School - 10:00 a.m.

In addition to school starting two hours late, please note the following:
NO Breakfast Program
NO AM Preschool
NO Before School District Programs (academic, music, athletic, extra-curricular, etc.)
NO AM NEWTech Skills Center Busing
NO Zero-hour classes for high schools

Our Lost & Found closets are busting at the seams! We have set up tables in the foyer next to our lunchroom/commons area. Please encourage your student(s) to look through the tables and closets for any of their missing items. We are making daily announcements as well. Parents are welcome to stop in before or after school with your student to look through the items. All unclaimed items will be donated this Friday, December 19th.
