We had a fun and exciting week at Shaw last week, with 5th grade tours, Zilch distribution, and our very own Allison Quine receiving the District’s IRL Award! Congratulations, Allison, on this well-deserved recognition and for all you do for our students and school community.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Spokane Conservation District, where Mrs. Ellert’s Real World Ready class had the opportunity to take a field trip last week!
Students spent the day hiking, learning about native plants and local ecosystems, and exploring the important work being done to protect and preserve our natural environment. It was an incredible hands-on learning experience that allowed students to connect classroom learning to the real world while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
A special thank you to the staff and volunteers for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion with our students. We are so grateful for community partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for our kids!

Last week, Mrs. Ellert’s Real World Ready class had the opportunity to partner with The Lands Council to plant trees for homeowners right here in our neighborhood! It was wonderful for students to step into a real-world classroom, learning about tree planting while helping our neighbors at the same time. *The Zilch produce distribution is at Regal April 23 from 9:30-12:30 (at Shaw next week)
*Dispose of your unused medications at Safeway on April 25 from 10am-2pm
*Donate blood at OnTrack on April 28 from 9am-1pm
*Complete this community survey and be entered to win a $30 grocery or gas gift card PLUS a Derailer coffee card!
Last week, many of our Shaw music students had the privilege of attending a campus visit and music enrichment field trip to Eastern Washington University. Students enjoyed a campus tour, played EWU trivia bingo, attended an amazing concert, and even sat in on a jazz rehearsal. The highlight of the day? Getting to eat in the college cafeteria!

Before break, we had the privilege of watching some of our amazingly talented staff and students shine in an unforgettable talent show. From start to finish, it was filled with creativity, courage, and school spirit. Great job, students and staff—you made it a show to remember!

Recently, some of Mrs. Smith's and Mr. Lee's students had the incredible opportunity to participate in Gonzaga University’s 8th Grade Preview Day. They heard an inspiring message about the importance of attending college and explored campus through a fun, interactive scavenger hunt.
A huge thank you to Gonzaga University for hosting such an engaging and meaningful experience for our students—we appreciate the warm welcome and inspiration you provided!
