This is a time-honored gospel tune that I love to sing; its message is clear and if you, like I, believe that "God" by whatever other names you determine - is Eternal in the Heavens, as we are taught that He is - then you'll love this ole time gospel tune as well. As for our 'more' scholarly brethren, who prefer the Truth told in 'high tone' rhetoric - then this will not be a gospel tune that they choose to cherish....and yet, I challenge these beloved brethren of mine, to find the simple truth told, the truth whispered into the ear of the 'weary wanderer' - athirst in the desert' seeking that 'cup of cold water' - as Our Dear Mrs. Eddy, encouraged us - "give them a cup of cold water..." and NEVER fear the consequences. If Christian Scientist, and it's followers are to stand on the frontline and even push -forward into that forboding breach of the dark night and error... than a simple Truth like the one sung in this hymn, is weapon plenty if we apply it. God IS God - and He Don't Change.

We are inspired to follow our Leader and the Master she followed - Jesus the Christ. We are patient and lovingly support this effort in everyone who, like Abraham, set out to seek a city, not made with hands, high in the heavens... the promise, is as the Quakers prayer puts it: "hearts to god, hands on the plough and eyes on the prize."

Let's at least begin.... turn from what isn't working and take the first step in the right direction. The early Christians were called 'people of the way'. We have been taught what is the right way - the way to Truth, Life, and Love. We've all, at some time or other drawn water from this well. We know that water which quenches our thirst.
