Good radio communication and strong situational awareness are some of the biggest parts of staying safe in the pattern. Keep your eyes outside, stay alert, and never assume everyone is doing everything perfectly.

That’s why we train for real-world flying at Summit Aviation.

What happens if you lose an engine in flight?

In a twin like our Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche, the plane won’t just fall out of the sky, but it will try to turn since the good engine is still pulling on one side.

From there, it’s all about control and decision-making. The airplane can still fly on one engine, but performance is reduced, so the pilot focuses on keeping it stable and planning the safest next step.

This is a simulated engine failure, something multi-engine pilots train for constantly so when it happens, it’s controlled, not chaotic.
