Observed annually on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. ❤️🖤💚

Westside Academy had their Senior Recognition Ceremony on June 16. Staff members talked about each student, and then students received their recognition certificates from Principal Edward Mongold. Congratulations to Jaylynn, Avery, Carlo, Jay and Ja'Niya, and good luck with your future plans!

BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education student Max Baetzold was named the 2026 Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES recipient of the Dr. Michael C. O’Laughlin Outstanding Senior Award. They were presented with the honor at a recognition dinner held May 14 at BOCES 2.

A Culinary Arts student from Churchville-Chili Central School District, Baetzold was selected for this distinguished award based on scholarship, leadership, service and character.

One senior from each high school and BOCES in Monroe County is chosen annually for this honor, which is presented by the Monroe County Council of School Superintendents.

The award is named in memory of Dr. O’Laughlin, a respected educator who served as BOCES 2 district superintendent from 2007 until his passing in 2009. In 2012, the award was renamed in his honor to recognize his decades of service to education and his deep commitment to students across the region.

In observance of Memorial Day, all BOCES 2 facilities will be closed today, Monday May 25.

Last week, at the NYLA/SSL Conference in Ithaca, NY, BOCES 2 School Library System Coordinator Jim Belair was the conference chair. School librarians from BOCES 2 component districts Brockport, Churchville, Greece, Hilton, Kendall, Spencerport and Wheatland were in attendance and are pictured with award-winning author Kelly Yang. Our region was well-represented at the conference!
