Some of our friendly SHIIP faces - thank you for all that you do to help our area seniors navigate the Medicare maze!

When you come in for a SHIIP appointment, you’re not talking to a call center. You’re sitting down with a trained volunteer from right here in our community. You're sitting down with one of these SHIIP Counselors.
Our SHIIP counselors help you:

• Check your current Part D or Medicare Advantage plan for the lowest cost
• Compare employer drug coverage to other Medicare options
• See if you qualify for Extra Help paying for prescriptions
• Understand your choices if you’re not in a drug plan yet

Appointments take about an hour and are held at Lakes Regional Healthcare. When you arrive, come in through Door A, which is the main entrance on the west side of the hospital, off Highway 71.

Ready to schedule? Call 712-336-6698 and leave a message. A scheduler will call you back.

🦃 HERE WE GO AGAIN, ALGONA! 🦃

We know Thanksgiving is still a little ways off…but when you’re planning to feed HUNDREDS of people in just a couple of hours, there’s really no such thing as starting too early. 😂

Planning has officially started for the 2026 Algona Community Thanksgiving Dinner! 💜💚

Last Thanksgiving, our incredible community helped us serve 341 meals in just TWO HOURS.

Chef cooked:
🦃 16 GIANT turkeys
🍖 30 lbs of ham
🥧 50 pies

…and it took a whole lot of helping hands, generous donations and community support to make it all happen.

And now we’re ready to do it again. ❤️

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be sharing everything right here — dinner details, ways to help, sponsorship and donation opportunities, behind-the-scenes prep and probably a little bit of Thanksgiving chaos along the way. 😉

For now, we have TWO favors to ask:

💜 FOLLOW the Algona Community Thanksgiving Dinner page so you don’t miss any updates.

💚 SHARE this post and help us start spreading the word!

And most importantly...

This dinner is for EVERYONE.

Maybe you’re spending Thanksgiving alone.
Maybe cooking a whole Thanksgiving dinner just isn’t in the cards this year.
Maybe you’re working.
Maybe money is tight.
Maybe you simply want a good Thanksgiving meal.

You don't need a reason.

No qualifications. No questions. No judgment.

Just our community taking care of our community. 💜💚

Clean those pantries, we are looking for items you are willing to share. Find a great deal at the store, we will take that too! Thank you for supporting those in need.
