The next SAT test is on August 22, 2026.

If you are preparing for the test, or have a child who is, here are three quick tips for acing the math section:

1. Use mental math as much as you can to breeze through the easier problems. You don’t have to solve every equation by hand, and you don’t need to put everything into Desmos. Some questions have patterns or shortcuts that can easily be spotted and solved in your head.
2. Learn how to use Desmos. It’s amazing how much easier Desmos can make problems that would otherwise take up your time. Need to find the roots of a quadratic or the radius of a circle that isn’t immediately obvious? Use Desmos. It can easily add 50+ points to your score.
3. Take practice tests, make mistakes, and learn from them by reading through the solutions. This is by far the best way to improve your score. The SAT practice tests on the College Board website are a great place to start.
