The first annual 2.2 Walk for Heroes united our community in raising awareness of veteran su***de. Hosted by the BHSU Veterans Club and the Spearfish American Legion Family, the event was inspired by the Be The One mission. Along the walk, names were read aloud to honor those who lost their battles, and heartfelt stories of remembrance were shared. It was truly a walk of hope. 💙

Black Hills State University hosted the ceremony for the marker of the 93rd CTD.

If you are in the area and local military history interest you, check out this event.

Join us on Friday, June 20, 2025, for the dedication of the SD State Historical Marker commemorating the U.S. Army Air Forces 93rd College Training Detachment, which was stationed on campus during World War II. The program begins at 1 p.m. in the President's Conference Room on the upper floor of the Black Hills State University Student Union. Paul Higbee and Terry Neil King will share the story of the 93rd. Following the presentation, we will move out to Veterans Park to dedicate the marker. Veterans Park is located just east of the Student Union along University Street. Attendees may use any campus parking lot.

Black Hills State University proudly honors the sacrifice and service of our nation’s heroes. As a designated Purple Heart University, BHSU continues to recognize and support combat-wounded veterans and all who have served.

As part of this commitment, new parking signs have been installed across campus, reserving spots for combat-wounded veterans and all veterans—a visible reminder of our gratitude and respect.
